John-Key-sold-environment

Remember 100% Pure? Remember how Key dumped it as our Tourism by-line because he was frightened his shitty do nothing, exploit at all costs position on the environment would show that by-line up as the greenwash it is?

Remember how Key reshaped our tourism brand to be all about Hobbits and Orcs and Elves? Looks like Middle Earth is only much of a draw card with upper class virgins from England on their gap year and doesn’t have the same pull as you know, the clean environment and breath taking landscape.

Yeah, well, it seems that decision was catastrophic for our Tourism brand as Tourism NZ has hilariously decided to go back to 100% Pure because Frodo throwing away jewellery has as much appeal as Peter Jackson’s version of feudal employment law.

This u-turn despite all the claims at the time from industry chiefs that 100% Pure could be used against us because  high intensity Dairy Farming polluting our waters and lifting our emissions would prove it was greenwash.

Turns out our hypocrisy is preferable to Dungeons and Dragons.

That U-turn comes on the heels of National’s new Capital Gains Tax that isn’t a tax that was announced over the weekend. Key is finally having to admit that his supply, supply, supply solution to Auckland’s property bubble is nonsense and that he has been forced to do a tiny something aimed at speculators.

It’s a tiny nothing because overseas investors should not be allowed to buy existing residential property, they need to be building new houses, not inflating the prices of the current stock, but the fact Key has been forced to act shows how dire the circumstances are.

David Farrar has obviously come back with the polling numbers and Key has done the least he can in  an attempt to pacify that polling. Problem is, the intense pressure to invest from overseas is still going to continue driving up prices until Key has no choice but to act in a manner that demands intervention into the market. At that stage Key will need to keep an eye on Judith and the Backbench Gang.

Two u-turns in one week is making National look like they are running in circles.

    John Key.

  2. I’ve wondered whether a contributing factor to the booming housing market is money laundering. It may be what is also affecting the other global bubbles like London, Sydney etc. I notice that the REINZ are implementing a policy to prevent this, which I think is a spooky coincidence in terms of timing. Maybe JK has had a visit from the police.

    From the Herald:

“Real Estate Institute of New Zealand chief executive Colleen Milne said the new voluntary rule brought the industry into line with other sectors. It reflected the growing threat of criminals using New Zealand property to wash illegally sourced money – both domestically and from overseas.”

  3. JK will continue doing nothing about NZ housing unaffordabilty & the wholesale sell off of NZ to rich overseas buyers ( who I guess will also be contributors to the Natzs party coffers). Occasionally doing a little tweek here & there so his spin Drs have something to play with & the Natz propaganda dept, aka NZ News Media, have also have something-anything to obfuscate with.
But the bottom line his changes will be like the USA/Canadian border, very easy for humans to find a way around.
Wake up NZ before you are irreversibly slaves to overseas Lords in your own country, aided & abetted by the man with the lovely smiley face, who also likes sexually bullying waitresses with pony tails

  4. Wait, next John Key will ask his hairdresser to dye his hair black and have it permed in curly fashion. He will go to a tanning studio, or even get some artificial dye to “tan” his body top to toe, he will buy and dress in a dark hoodie and he will go to Mangere, Otara and Mangere schools and rap dance, trying to prove he is “one of the people”, and “cares” about “hungry children”.

Nothing surprises me anymore about Key and the idiot gang that run the country, they do anything to stay in power, anything, and policy gets tweaked and “enhanced” while they go, all the time, as they fear the polls.

So this poses a challenge to the opposition, but I am sure, there must be ways to expose this more, and to show the hypocrisy, to name and it constantly hammer it home, so that the MSM will chant it as a mantra.

Then, finally and at last, the tide may turn.

  5. Pure 100% look like we are doing something……..anything.

So is the new housing tax policy. I agree, National’s polling must be telling them what is going around dinner parties, our kids can’t buy a house, they can’t even rent one, in fact ordinary small business owners (that we National are supposed to revere) can’t rent accommodation in Auckland. I am in no doubt the status quo is just dandy to Key and National, the current calamity in housing in Auckland suits them fine but its starting to hurt National so out comes the rush job “solution”. Like the previous pointless Nick Smith specials only better, this is one where what already happens will still happen. The only difference being it is merely codified by the PM.

You should already pay tax on earnings so if you profit from a house sale you purchased to make a buck on then you pay tax. Nothing new here only the law will now say that if it is sold prior to 2 years and a day then it is assumed you are a speculator. So Key has given an out to investors who hang on for 2 years and 2 days, he’s given them a MEGA LOOP HOLE!

Oh and he’s going to do something vague around foreign investors. It better be vague, meaning nothing different, because if you take their foreign exchange spectacular punts out of the equation you are left with local earning speculators and I reckon the whole house of cards built on sand is going teeter and fall over. Meanwhile keep saying its supply. Lie enough and that will fool everyone!

As for the $40 million extra for IRD to do something with this mess, it’s almost a certainty it was earmarked for other tax evasion investigations anyway and this was a convenient way to make the whole sham policy look like something it’s not, genuine.

Nothing will change and even today Key still says there’s no bubble or crisis in Auckland’s housing.

Governing by poll may work short-term for National but long-term for NZ like-minded answers to pressing problems will only make things far worse.

  6. I’m surprised the charlatan Key and the nasty Natsies are able to still stand upright, considering they must be getting pretty dizzy by now, up to their sleazy eyeballs in slimy spin!

  7. Well,

Does this new clarification apply retrospectively? If not, the onslaught will occur just after the 2017 election when everybody cashes in.

“Look at how we’ve solved the housing crisis!”

    A long-term election strategy?
