I’ve been a bystander in the Auckland comedy scene for over a decade  and I’ve never seen creative excitement like this. If you are ever going to see comedy in Auckland, make it this festival.

The energy the new gen comedians are creating around themselves is built upon by the children of solid middle class north shore property valuations, meaning that the golden age of Auckland Comedy is upon us.

Snort has made comedy cool. Comedy was always a bit geeky and rough, but the polished self confidence from high decile schools gives the scene a whole new momentum, and it’s truly wonderful.

This year the quality of the self promotion by the comedians is better than ever before and there is a design professionalism that makes their posters and flyers collectables.

Forget the international acts, this festival it is the original, clever, confidently funny local acts who should send you scrambling. Here are this festivals picks.

Probably Shouldn’t Have Told You That – The Fan Brigade are the funniest musical act in NZ even when Flight of the Concords are visiting. Tickets will run red hot, don’t be surprised if you miss them.

Finally Dead – Rose Matafeo is so ridiculously talented, one needs to see her live to appreciate why she will be living overseas shortly.
