No, not *that* one.
For ages, there’s been a loophole in NZ law that basically allows people convicted of sexual crimes (even against children) in Australia to migrate over to New Zealand and effectively slip their bail conditions.
Due to the way the law and data-sharing works … we don’t know they’re coming. We have no legal mandate once they get here to impose the bail conditions they’d otherwise be subject to in Oz.
And not only is that dangerous for OUR citizenry … it also creates a perverse incentive for Australian sex offenders to try and jump the ditch so as to secure a hugely enhanced degree of freedom here.
This clearly isn’t right.
We should NOT be having to rely on victims PERSONALLY calling up our national police headquarters to notify the NZ Government about potential undesirables coming into our midst.
National has known for years that this loophole exists – highlighted by the tragic death of Jade Bayliss – and yet, despite a catalogue of assurances since 2013, has done nothing to plug it.
Now, a convicted paedophile from Western Australia is seeking to take advantage of our laxity by seeking to relocate to Canterbury in order to escape his release conditions.
Our police didn’t know he was coming.
There’s no provision for ensuring the offender abides by the conditions of his parole while he’s here.
Between this and the Government’s shameful attempt to block Winston Peters’ bill to remove name suppression from paedophiles where this is called for by the victim, I’m left asking one simple question:
When will National make good on their promise to take paedeophilia seriously.
If National does anything it will be a few months before the next general or by-election. All circuses must be carefully stage managed to be effective, and this includes the circus that currently masquerades as New Zealand’s government.

Government only acts wehen the sum of pubic anger reaches a critical mass that they have to concede.
How sad it is that these criminal’s just don’t care to represent the public as they are mandated to do but serve their interests only but as you say will only act on their own part when an election or Bi election approaches.
What happened to the term;
Government – “We are by the people for the people.”

Makes one wonder what National have to hide. maybe if one National MP is outed it might cause a flood of other misbehavors.
Most know what Sabin resigned for,its not a secret so why put suppression order on it.
If the suppression order was lifted (and lets face it the suppression was for Keys benefit not Sabins) then justice could be served and maybe Sabin could get on with his life.
Sabins life must be a misery with all the snide nasty comments about him. Guilty or not he would be better off out in the open ,and the alleged victims would feel more comfortable, family or not
Key wont let us have justice because it dosnt suit his agenda,but Northland has shown his own supporters don’t approve and don’t support his deviousness.
So.. do we have a situation where the ruling clique is morally, and politically indifferent to this issue, and has plans to use this as an election stunt, which would explain the squashing of any attempts to steal their thunder….. or have we got a “UK Tory” situation whereby the corporate raiding party is actively protecting those within it’s own ranks, until such time as they can produce, at least a show of action on this without endangering the freedom of influential backers, and operatives within the ruling clique??

Like everything else Key and his National party minions declare, their promises to make good will never happen. What more can you expect from a traitorous bastard who isn’t a prime minister interested in representing and protecting the people he works for, but rather just a money hungry ex banker/investor working to push through the TPPA sell off for New Zealand, to American corporate operated political lawlessness. Shyte.
I fear the national party has been ‘sabined’ into a full state of Sabinization by John Key and co …….
Any feelings for the well being of children displayed by them is a ‘Con’.
I’m not sure National can be accused of inaction here – on the contrary: the evidence suggests that several National paedophiles are still active.
