One of the few things to open recently in the inner city of Auckland that is independent and genuinely cool is the Milk Bar ‘Moustache’ on Wellesley St, Auckland. It’s not backed by Sky bloody City and it’s not part of a group monopoly of bars who churn out manufactured cool, it is smart, unique and funky.

Sadly smart, unique and funky is not what Auckland is about. The crucifyingly high rents now being charged in the inner city are killing off anything that isn’t backed by multi-millions of dollars, so Moustache is being forced out. They are however launching a pledge me page to support the bar going mobile in the form of a bus, and if you are able, go along and support them as it’s rare to get good businesses going.

  1. Every encouragement to a small food enterprise locally owned.

Unfortunately we live in a country where food propaganda is heavily weighted for the corporate producer and the interests enmeshed with corporate investment and consumerism at producer and customer level.

“Milk build health bones” is a myth we are bombarded with.

The highest milk consuming countries have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Yes milk does not help you build strong bones but actually robs your bones of calcium. Read it again slowly.

    The mechanisms are well documented.

Dairy milk is fine for calves but not humans and particularly not for babies. Life long damage is done to the baby’s gut and immune system as well as other vital organs.

Even without the bovine growth hormone (rBGH) organic milks still has a high insulin-growth factor 1 (IGF-1) to promote calf growth. In humans this is linked with cancer growth and immune system damage.

A good supply of calcium can be gained from a variety of fresh leafy vegetables easily but not from milk.

    Sacrilege????

Large corporations have not taken over veggie supply …yet.
