If only Auckland Council had been as staunch with Ports of Auckland over worker rights as they are over sea views

Bledisloe-Wharf-Extension-Comparison

It’s lovely the Auckland Council has finally decided to show some spine towards the Ports of Auckland, but isn’t it a tad disappointing that it takes a ruined sea view by those who want to expand their seaside property portfolios to spur the Auckland Council into action, and it wasn’t the way the Ports of Auckland were spitefully treating their workers by trying to smash the Union a couple of years ago?

Smash workers, no probs.

Ruin the ocean view, threats to sack the Board.

Nice to see where our priorities lie.

  1. We need the unions to call a general strike to stop the ruination of nz and neglect of rights by this government and its minions.

    • @ Elle . Yes , we do . But how ? Where to start ? What can be done today that starts that process in motion ? You mention Unions . What Unions ? roger douglas destroyed unionism . Perhaps we should start with him ?

      • No, Muldoon started the bash the unions and the Bolger govt employment relations act finished the job. Labour with Clark restored some balance and Key has removed most of that balance. A new Labour led govt needs to act as soon as it gets the power to restore workers rights. In the end unions will get much stronger.

        • Elsewhere on today’s blog there is an article about the appalling treatment of workers in fast food outlets. They need help and I suspect that they would have the sympathy of the public, so what is Labour and the other Unions doing. This should be an issue to rally round. A strike on all of the participating outlets should test the water.

    • General strikes are illegal. Calling and carrying out one would lead to the destruction of the Union movement.

        • Oh come on, Frank. Once Gosman’s creakily realigned his three remaining braincells into the appropriate formation to permit rational thought, Hell will have frozen over.

You’re expecting far too much from the hapless soul.

  2. Oh yes, the well-heeled, the Knights of the Realm and other celebrities have been stirred from their Herne Bay, Parnell and Devonport mansions and villas in well organised outrage. That jolly awful wharf is wuining my views of the city from my old villa in Devonport or worse the nasty currents it creates absolutely plays havoc with my yacht/launch/ship and causes me to spill my gin.

And with that Penny Hulse, disappointingly, was reported in the media for being part of the secret vote for this environmental vandalism to go ahead, without consultation, has threatened to go “thermonuclear” if POA don’t back down! Does that mean she’s threatening to build a nuclear power station on Bledisloe Wharf??? I guess not but dear oh dear, piss our millionaires off and by God people jump into line.

Personally, now these creeps are against these wharf extensions the cynic in me would like to see the whole lot paved in concrete right over to the Esplanade just to show you how it feels when no one cares less!

  3. Yes,How true the affect of a couple of well known heads, some children, dogs etc make in the shaping of the narrative. As a member of the union which recently battled POAL the most galling thing is their use of rate payers money to carry on their vendettas, empire building etc.Already they have full page adds extolling their vertues in the local rag.I personaly believe the only reason they settled with us was the realisation that their low life actions, and gross misuse of ratepayer money was about to be exposed in court.Good luck to anyone who fronts up to these swine, and i wait for the outrage when they realise that their own money is being used against them!
