The manner in which Key has used fear for political gain last week was a new low for NZ politics under his reign, and when you consider the low points to date that’s pretty grim.
I don’t for one second think that the State sent the letters with 1080 poison to themselves so Key could use it for a ‘false flag’ operation, but what I do think is that National saw an opportunity to maximise the fear this threat could create for maximum political advantage.
At the same time Winston was building momentum in Northland and revelations of mass surveillance were circulating, Key launches a monster PR campaign to generate fear of ‘Eco Terrorists’. The Police refused to enflame the situation using that language, Key just bowled on in and did it regardless.
While Key was terrifying middle NZ, his Government wasn’t informing exporters of what extra paper work they would require. The hamfisted attempt by Key to manipulate this into a terrorism issue was summed up best by Steve Able…
Why aren’t we asking if Key manipulated the threat to milk to obscure news NZ are spying on China? Won’t that be a bigger cause of milk powder being stopped at the border?
Last week I joked that we were about to have a whole lot of milk powder stopped at the Chinese border after the mass spying revelations, turns out I was right.
Key didn’t show leadership last week, he showed his ability to manipulate divisiveness.

Its to be wondered what Key will do before March 28th,nothing is too evil for his candidate to win in the North.

Too much complacency out there – *I’m all right – doesn’t affect me – Mr smiley wavy man is a good guy* attitudes are tearing this country apart.
How are we to rid ourselves of this vicious, lying, traitor, who is very quickly becoming a dangerous liability to NZ?
The Governor General doesn’t seem to want to know. He’s an abysmal failure as far as ordinary Kiwis go. So who/what else is there for us to do?
Protests in the form of passive resistance, civil disobedience etc, seem the logical answer. It comes back to people power doesn’t it? But to get Kiwis organized is a struggle on its own. Therein lies the problem and the sleaze Key knows it and plays it for all its worth!

Eco-terrorist and all forms of terrorism are to John Key what communist and communism were to Rob Muldoon … convenient straw men/dogs to be whipped up into national fears to mask inadequacies of governance …
I think you will find that the threatened use of violence of a criminal nature against innocent victims or property by an environmentally orientated, sub-national group for environmental-political reasons, or aimed at an audience beyond the target, often of a symbolic nature is the exact definition of eco-terrorism. This is a blatant case of eco-terrorism. Not preventing pollution getting into water ways or cutting down trees is hardly in the same league as this threat.

These are all very very big conclusions to make. It takes an extreme stretch of the imagination to invent a theory that the government, although they are so very terrible according to most articles on this blog, would go to such extraordinary lengths such as placing New Zealand’s dairy export industry at risk, merely to win a by election. I am all for an interesting conspiracy theory but really? I realise the Northland by-election is important for National to win but only because they want to maintain the sole majority of the house that they won in the latest election. Reading the other articles on this blog it would be completely within the bounds of National to rig the election anyway. That would likely be easier than threatening our entire economy anyway. Maybe that is what they will do and all of this has been a false flag.
