With Labour marching to the centre to woo over ‘middle Nu Zilind’, there are 2 targets Labour could aim for to prove to the self-employed that Labour’s values of worker fairness and equality extend to them as well.
IRD – Talk to many small business people and the self-employed and the penalty rates the IRD load up on them is a source of much anger. Holding small business to the same penalty rates as huge corporations seems mean spirited, if Labour demand a more fair approach to penalty rates for small business and the self employed, Labour would show that voting block that Labour’s values of worker rights extend to them.
ACC – The horror stories one hears from bloody ACC are an abomination. The manner in which ACC goes out of its way to declare every accident as a pre-existing ailment needs formal review. People who have spent a lifetime paying into ACC are slapped in the face when ACC decides their work injury is a bullshit pre-existing condition.
If Labour are to connect with this middle ground, they need to show they are on their side, criticising ACC and IRD would go some what to doing that.
3rd target.
Pay rises for the middle classes vs pay rises for the bosses.

Farmers have the money because they are our primary industry, like it or not .
They’re also human beings who are just as vulnerable as anyone else . Perhaps more so since they carry vast debt burdens and NO / ZERO / NADA / NIET security .
You city people need farmers for your wealth and farmers need city people for their protection .
If Labour doesn’t court the Farmer ? Then they’re either stupid of bent . Perhaps both and if that’s true ? We’re fucked . We will remain fucked . We will always be fucked .

Do you know what Farmers are ? Apart from smelly , deamonised and loathed ?
They are ‘ self employed ‘ . Yes , they are . They’re self employed small business owners just like them there city folk what with their fancy ways an’ all .
The difference between them there self employed city folk and farmers is this .
Take one small handful of sheep fur ? Go on ? Pick it up ? It is a bit smelly , sheepy and oily I agree . Take that one handful of sheep fuzz, worth about $2.00 and sell it to some fuck for that ?
That fucker then takes that wool and on-sells it to a manufacturer who runs it through a factory , calls it an Icebreaker jumper and sells it to you city shumcks for $300.00 +
The difference ?
Well , of course, the money but there is something else .
A sheep . Once born, takes one year of care and feeding to grow fluff . Once fluffed up and at hoggit stage it is able to be shaved . Once its gone through it’s first shaving, a right of passage of sorts , it’s returned to it’s giant plate of greens aka the ‘ paddock ‘ where it spends another year of eating, shitting and for a brief few weeks , fucking , to produce offspring and, you guessed, it more wool at a few dollars a kilo .
Do you have any idea of just how labour intensive getting a sheep to shaving is ?
Well, here goes .
You have to grow greens for the bastards for a start because in winter , grass stops growing so the farmer has to figure out what might be grown into the winter months to feed his fluffy sheeples . Usually turnips , brassicas , streaky bacon , olives , pasta and hay .
Lets take hay . Hay, is dried grass . It’s cut ( Tractor+servicing+driver+fuel ) , teded ( Flipped over so as to dry evenly ) then bailed . ( Tractor + bailer+servicing + labour+beers+sheila+root+Oh fuck ! I’m pregnant + increasing costs = uncomfortable marriage because rooted sheila = rich father . )
Then there’s the foot rot , worm drenchings , ear taggings , ball rubberings , tail choppings , crutchings ( Removing dried shit from sheep arses with a terrible machine that will cut your fucking arm off if not managed safely ) drafting , herding , shagging, then … and only then , shearing . ( Quad bike + Dog + Whistle + swandri + loud, course shouting/swearing + sheep yards + Shearing Shed + Shearers + Beers + electricity + food + lodgings + labour = shaved sheep = a scant few dollars PER KILO for WORLD CLASS WOOL = sleazy , cunning , slippery agent / wool buyer who pays fuck all, then once deal is done charges $300.00 plus for a pretty little something to apres ski in to get that girl pissed to shag at Coronet Peak Dahling .
