Wow. Just wow…

Deputy mayor says he’ll be sacked
South Taranaki deputy mayor Alex Ballantyne says he expects to be sacked because he has spoken out about the impact gasses coming from dumped Fonterra dairy products have had on his community.

A council meeting is scheduled to take place to discuss his future in the role on 4 November.

Mr Ballantyne has been vocal about the effects that the dumping of buttermilk, and milk contaminated with oil industry waste, at the waste-water treatment plant in Eltham last year have had.

He lives nearby, and said in addition to the stench, some residents have been poisoned by the gasses coming from the treatment facility.

He has said that some residents struggle to breathe, others are unable to sleep, while another complains of coughing up blood.

Mr Ballantyne said he has been heavily criticised for speaking out and believes that is the reason he will likely be formally pushed aside.

“The sort of assault on what we breath basically has been very, very hard to accept and devastating for some people,” he said.

“I’ve been laughed at, accused of being a liar and, yeah, generally subject to this passive-aggressive abuse over so many months.

“I can’t be removed from the council altogether I wouldn’t think, and I better not be. I was voted on by the people, I’ve been there 15 years or more, so I don’t see how I can be removed from the council altogether. But yes, I think that’s the plan, [which] is to officially remove me as deputy mayor,” he said.

Mayor Ross Dunlop would not be interviewed this morning, but confirmed the meeting next month will discuss Mr Ballantyne’s position. The mayor said the public will be excluded from the meeting.

…the power of Farmers eh? Dare to challenge farmers dumping pollution and suddenly your position in Council is challenged. We are a milk powder republic and Fonterra our unelected senate. When detractors claim Labour are a Party of ‘special interests’, remind them of who the real special interest party is – National. The special interests of SkyCity, the special interests of Warner Bros and of course – the special interests of the Farmers.

A true sign of how pathologically unbalanced our political landscape has become can be found on this propaganda site – Rosie the bloody cow. That’s right, the Dairy industry is a tad concerned that one day in the far, far, far, far future their mate Key may one day not rule and those awful lefties might get into power and start putting some environmental constraints on Dairy, so the next generation of NZers are being coaxed into loving Daisy the cow so that dairy and their sense of nationhood are interwoven so deeply that they won’t notice the cow shit floating in their drinking water.

DairyNZ are playing wall to wall adverts on children’s Sky TV channels to hook them in now.

What Rosie the talking cow may not be aware of is that this Government has sold off power companies to rich NZers and used that money to subsidise even more irrigation for the Dairy industry while removing democratic bodies set up to protect the environment and water so that Farmers can pollute more.

We’re a pretty laid back people here in the Shire of the South Pacific, we’ve replaced the jackboot with the gumboot.

  1. It would be funny to see a counter narrative Rosie the Cow blog that included:

“Deeply traumatised today. Had my baby boy taken away from me and shot in the head. At least he wasn’t bashed in the head with a hammer as used to happen.”

“Another day, another long slog to the dairy shed and back, second time today.”

“Got a really sore hoof today from carrying so much weight.”

  2. McDonald’s did the same – ‘Go for the kids’, and as time, and the size of our children, has shown, it is not in ‘ their’ best interest.
Like a lot of things (sugar), people’s bodies don’t actually ‘need’dairy products, in fact Asian countries, for a long time, have done fine without them.
Education, not marketing, is the way to go, but it is not encouraged by the corporations, in fear of losing their profits.
The message I get: Stuff the people, stuff the environment…
    Lovely stuff that money!

  3. Never heard of that website until now, its so gentile and idealistic. On the face of it they appear to care about the “environment” and “sustainability”, appear, mind you!

Then again I had never heard of “DairyNZ”, the entity that is behind this cutsie pie little propaganda machine. A quick glance at it made me think its little more than a lobby group. Then I found that Barbara Kuriger, now National MP for Taranaki King Country, is a very recent ex director. Looking over the DairyNZ website in more detail however I think there can be little doubt that it is nothing more than the time honoured legit business front for something else that wants to remain hidden, say the National Party? Also known as Kiwiblog aka Curia, Taxpayer Union, etc, etc, etc………

And not so much coaxed as conditioning, grooming. They think very long term does big money, think Leighton Smith and others on ZB for example in the 80’s and 90’s, it’s worked thus far.

  4. Conversation over-heard at a Ponsonby Rd Cafe between two trendy fellows .

” Yea , those filthy farmers with their shitting cows polluting our waterways … ”

Staff member asks for order .

    ” Hi , yea . A flat white and a latte thanks . And a ham and Brie panini , cheers . ”

Simplistic hypocrisy is beneath you Martyn .

Get the facts right man .

Fact one . Cowsploiters are not farmers . They are land industrialists . Factory workers . Any fool could run a cowsploitation venture with a simple text book with pictures .

Fact two . If you want to blame and judge , blame and judge The Banks . They are the ones who shit , by proxy , into your water . The schumck down at the cow factory is nought but a minion to money fetishists .

And next time to you want to show off by being offensive , show a fat bankers arse oozing shit at $11,000.00 a day . Not some poor cow .

  5. Whew!

When I saw the picture accompanying this article, for a minute there, I thought it was a suggestion for a new flag, seeing the issue is up for debate again 🙂
