John Armstrong turns on Glenn Greenwald

Where does a mediocre journalist like John Armstrong get off attacking a journalist with the credibility of Glenn Greenwald as he has in his ridiculous column today? Armstrong has the audacity to try and play the terrorism card to justify why the Government has started mass surveillance of its people…

The timing was fortuitous for Key, but the news that Australia has raised its terror alert to the second-highest level would have sent more shudders down more spines than any filing cabinet full of the documents that Dotcom and the American journalist Glenn Greenwald may have.

…what a surprise that Armstrong is desperately spinning terrorism and fear mongering to justify John Key’s lies. The NZ Herald stopped being journalism a long time ago.

This is why Kim Dotcom was right to hold this meeting in the final week of the election, after leaning how compromised the mainstream media have become with hate merchant Cameron Slater, they simply can’t be trusted  to do their job.

The Daily Blog will live stream the event tonight at 7pm.

  1. KDC and GG do need to come up with something tonight. Let’s hope they’ve a bit more left in the tank.

Bring on the Big Reveal… And please educate yourselves on the TPPA.

  2. Dear John,
I’m outraged to wake up this morning and see your column has been hacked!

I’m sure I won’t be alone in thinking this has to be a diabolical plot by left-wing conspiracy theorists (plenty of those about lately you know) to make this column into some kind of a bad joke – instead of the solid, no-nonsense journalism us in the right know it to be.

As a journalist, or someone who manages to use a keyboard daily, who will be as shocked as your readers when you see your column this morning. This hacker needs to be taught some basic journalistic/keyboard-user values, as I’m sure you and your editor will agree. At least we can all have a laugh while this column is still up. Where shall we start, John? – With the absurd attack on the day a leading journalist promises to produce evidence regarding immense privacy violations, the snide comments about the end of game of what ‘seemed a clever move’, or the one about a possible ‘final humiliation’? Take a pick, there’s no shortage of ridiculous material here, even if this hacker only had time to hammer out a few paragraphs.

I do, however, have one overwhelming favourite from this remarkable piece – the bit about an ‘unwritten’ post-9/11 contract. I can only assume it’s unwritten because it was never agreed to, or even discussed – but that won’t stop this devilish hacker! They go on ‘bluntly’ (at least they didn’t leave us in any doubt) about the trade-off. Agree to this or it’s death by bombing, somewhere, at some time.

I would say ‘you can’t make this stuff up’ John, but someone did!
Boy, will your IT team will be in for a barrelling this morning! That’s if there’s an editor in the building – I know news rooms are understaffed these days.

There is one thing I’m thankful for, though, to whoever has been hacking into your column today – and that’s for again raising the omnipresent threat of terrorism. With all the revelations concerning the erosion of basic democratic values swirling about here at home, us concerned citizens had nearly forgotten that the real threat to our liberty comes from without, not within. It was with sheer, unadulterated terror that I read from this morning’s hacker how Australia has raised their terror alert to the second-highest level. Whether there’s been a tip-off over a huge bomb attack (sign the unwritten contract people, I implore you!) or another crowded boat of unwashed darkies trying to sully the golden soil with their unwanted presence – well, it remains to be seen – perhaps you can inform us more when you get control of your keyboard back.

Joining you in hope that the Herald will see this joke for what it is and issue an apology (unless this was just someone exploiting a failure in the IT system – then it’s probably fine). As you say John, there can be no room for doubt.

    Regards,
    A Concerned Citizen

  3. Why has the terror alert been upped in Australia? Because they are going to join the war and they want their citizens scared enough to agree with it. It is a pity that we have become caught up in their scaremongering and now our govt will be using it to their own dirty advantage. The Herald’s only use anymore is for the proverbial wrapping of the fish and chips.

    • “Why was the terrorist alert upped in Australia?”

So they can ‘justify’ the establishment of the US spy network in Aus – it is part of the plan for the TPPA and UN.
      Mass surveillance!
Soon all Aus and NZ police will start to resemble those attack guys who were helicoptered to .coms home.
Our police will start to wear firearms.

Its all part of the plan – to control us – the masses!

      FJK!!
      FTA!!
      FBO!!
      F the TPPA!!
      F the UN!!

      Opinion.

      • Remember back in 2004?5?, when GPS was attached to every powerpole in the country?
This wasn’t for google earth entertainment purposes!

Now think about what possible reason we have for power poles – above ground fitted with GPS, when we can easily, in reality, have all cables underground.

This is when my first thoughts and feelings of personal intrusion began, and now, as we see, it is playing itself out.

        Opinion.

  4. I found his article interesting, when he refers to 9/11 and terrorism – obviously trying to introduce a page out of the USA terrorism act – but we are NZ (for the moment). Deliberately spreading his right wing conspiracy theories all over the show!

Seriously John Armstrong needs to take a trip to his doctor, where his doctor can verify his dementia, and send him home for the reality check of a cup of hot milo and his slippers. Or off to the dementia unit for his unrealistic public portrayal of terrorism in NZ – He should not be allowed out unsupervised!

    Opinion.

    • Oh I’d take a wild guess and say that the journos probably want to get right into it but the editorial team has ruled a blanket ban until after the election. Dirty, paid-up politics. Nicky Hager has called for the return of a true, independent, publicly funded broadcaster to free the fourth estate from corporate slant.

  5. What a ridiculous column JA has produced. It ticks the post-9/11 boxes without no logical connection and without any pretense of the cover stories and persuasion used by the great ‘charmers’ Cheney, Rumsfeld, Howard and co.

Interesting to note that discussion was closed after 180 comments, the vast majority critical of JA, as were the majority of the likes. The Right is clearly worried. The question now is how to overcome the MSM bias and drive the point home.

To borrow an ending line from Bomber, six days to go.

  6. Well John Armstrong is in the pocket of FJK and uses Slater as his information source. So of course he’s going to turn hostile on Glenn Greenwald, who is at the moment a huge thorn in FJK’s side!

Nothing professional in bagging a fellow journalist! Particularly one of Greenwald’s high international reputation. In fact Armstrong and a few other msm “journalists” are a disgrace to the profession, always prepared to report misinformation on behalf of the wimp FJK!

It’s a pity NZH as the country’s leading newspaper hasn’t bothered to interview Greenwald. But I guess that would only give FJK more grief 🙂

Just read the latest report in the NZH and FJK now is calling Greenwald a loser! WTF???

Greenwald is noticing in the short time he has been in the country, FJK changes his story daily, something most of us Kiwis have had to endure for the past six years!

Greenwald is onto FJK and his toxic anti Kiwi modus operandi. And FJK is squirming 🙂

Bags packed for Hawai’i yet John?
