UPDATE: Greens advertise on Whaleoil – but not on The Daily Blog?

PaknSave have shown ethical compass and blocked adverts on Whaleoil, yet the Greens are advertising on Whaleoil, and not The Daily Blog? I would imagine there are far more potential Green voters on The Daily Blog then ever are on Whaleoil.

Interesting election tactic.

UPDATE: The Greens have rushed out to say it was a mistake by their advertising agency. Rather than google ads, the Greens really should identify the blogs they want to advertise on with their advertising agency. Basic, silly error.

  1. Meh. They understand the market. Likely Green voters will be here reading and commenting. But they’re already likely voters.

What the Greens need most is to swing votes from possible Labour/NZF voters who are going to WhaleOil to see Slater in his finest.

Slater has received a huge jump in visitors who are not regulars but curious about what he writes and all the wealth of blogposts from the past.

    It’s smart advertising.

The greens already have my vote. I don’t need to see an ad to confirm it.

But I hope like hell they pull some swing votes.

    • They already are swinging from Labour, but also to NZF and the CollinCons. People are now leaving National but do not resonate with Labour, at least in these “highly scientific” polls.

  2. Mate, isn’t this just a Google ad? Websites have no control over this kind of content – it’s determined by Google, and it’s usually decided by what kind of websites the viewer has been visiting.

    • No it’s not down to Goggle at all, As a frequent user of Flight Centre, I recently noticed they were on Slaters site, I email them and they had it removed immediately , wrote back to me an explained that they had asked the ad agency to be more vigilant .

  3. It’s funny – I’d like to see Dirty Oil’s face when he sees it. Good on the Greens for this mistake! (They have my vote)

  4. It does make you think tho, just not enough attention to detail, But Martyn you need to do a sting on the ASB Bank their all over Slaters boag

    • Indeed. ASB need to be told that supporting this type of corrupt sleaze, with your advertising coin, is not what the public expect from a reputable business.

  5. Damn. When I saw this item’s headline, I thought the Greens were being very, very clever, not to say smart, withal. The Whale Oil blog is there: why not advertise on it? Mind you, I would have hoped that the Greens would have made sure what the charges were for advertising space…

Ethically compromising? I don’t think so, nor would it contaminate the Green brand altogether. That kind of equable tolerance would have made a stark contrast with what I’ve seen of the hysterical (and hysterically funny) style of invective to be found on that blog. Maybe some of its readers would have noticed, and have been suitably abashed…

    Aye, well…
