The Mana Candidate for Epsom is pleased that the TV3 ‘Jaffa Poll’ revealed that no votes will be cast for the Mana candidate in Epsom.

All Mana members and supporters in Epsom are casting their electorate vote for Paul Goldsmith.

Mana members and supporters in Epsom will be voting for Paul Goldsmith in protest at the Government ignoring the public and the electoral commission’s wish that the coat-tailing rule be abolished and the threshold be lowered, so that votes that should in fairness be counted and are not undemocratically discounted and thrown out of the ballot.

These undemocratically uncounted votes could, and have in the past, unfairly changed the make up of Parliament

Mana members and supporters in Epsom will be also be voting for Paul Goldsmith tactically, to remove the extreme and racist Right Wing ACT Party from our House of Representatives.

I call on all the members and supporters of the other Left parties with candidates standing in Epsom, to vote for Paul Goldsmith. I put out a challenge to the candidates of the other Left Parties to also strive to reach single digit figures of voter support. Through our combined efforts we could deliver to the good people of Epsom a representative that more accurately reflects their Centre Right political views instead of the corrosive extreme Right Wing, and frankly embarrassing kooky views of ACT.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the overwhelming majority of the good people of Epsom that rejected the extremist views of ACT at the last election.

  1. Call me cynical if you like but I can’t help wondering whether National has a very sneaky plan behind all this. It all seems too easy, National pretends it wants ACT to win Epsom so it can coat-tail one or two more MPs in and shore up National’s majority. National are supremely sure they will win, of course. But what if this is just a ploy, that National doesn’t really want ACT to win at all, after all it must be embarrassing to have to rely on such a bunch of deadheads like that. What if National is using reverse psychology to get the left to vote for Goldsmith and is secretly laughing at them as the left start lining up to vote for a National candidate? Perhaps National considers ACT has such small support that it won’t get enough party votes to get another MP in even if it wins Epsom (like Dunne in Ohariu). I may well be wrong, but it is another scenario that should be considered by the left before election day. National are masters of deception and capable of any slight-of-hand that will get themselves seats.

    • Lets wait till August 26 which is cut off for National to withdraw any candidates and see where they are really at.

The torys get an MP in Epsom whatever the left or right do thanks to the selfish moneybags that make up much of the electorates population.

The left however get to delete the ACT virus if ACT support nationally remains low and the National candidate wins PLUS we lower the chance of National forming a government.

    • National have nothing to gain by tricking the left into voting for Goldsmith. It won’t get them an extra seat, it’ll just mean Goldsmith is an electorate MP instead of a list MP.

      • Well Goldsmith is infinitely more talented than most National MPs,
apparently he can even write his own name in block capital letters.

    • True they are deceivers, but the Party vote is the balancing vote. Whatever, Epsom goes mostly blue anyway. Labour and the Left need a high party vote, and I/Mana and Greens will be there to keep things left. Goldsmith will be nobbled by his own inability with fewer nat MPs. Good for you, Mana.

  2. “All Mana members and supporters in Epsom are casting their electorate vote for Paul Goldsmith.”

These extra 30 votes should make all the difference

  3. “All Mana members and supporters in Epsom are casting their electorate vote for Paul Goldsmith.”

There’s seven votes in the bag, then.

  4. What about the rest of the country, I’ve heard that where National Ministers are standing down they are making way to have a ACT Candidate in those seats.

What truth is there in that?

  5. All of this “strategic voting” bollox just wont work! A Labour / Green supporter voting for National? That’s just frigging silly! There are a lot of “short stay accommodation(s)” that have sprung up around Newmarket. There’s also the boundary changes that now include a lot more rental properties.
Both of these scenarios generally have people living in them earning less that $28k p/a! Move all of these people to vote for one party on the left (Labour or Green) let the right wingers split the vote between National ACT and Conservative and I suspect there could easily be a left wing member for Epsom 🙂
Strategic voting – when voting for right wing scum – is hardly voting at all! That’s simply following the right wing party line and voting like a moron!
