I have been to A LOT of political party functions in my time, and they tend to be dull affairs at the best of times but what is happening with Internet MANA is something quite exciting. I went to last nights ‘Party Party’ because I wanted to see what the turn out would be like and who exactly wants to vote for Internet MANA.

It was fascinating, the voter base is one of the youngest and most mixed ethnically that I’ve ever seen with an amazing gender balance. Young, Maori, Pacific Island, Pakeha, Asian – it was an amazing mix of NZers suggesting Internet MANA have an appeal and a message far wider than first suspected.

For Gen Y and Gen X who have grown up in a consumer culture , they don’t have an idealogical compass and are far less attached to rigid tribal thinking, this generates an electorate more focused on  the worth of a current idea rather than the fractured history of that idea.

If this energy is carried through to election day, expect a result that will surprise punters.

Internet MANA are well on their way to the 3.5% they need to hit to change this Government, now Labour have to work for their 32% and the Greens need to claim their 15% (a prospect looking less difficult by the day for the Greens as they launch another excellent idea aimed at wooing National’s soft blue vote).

  1. Oh damn, those nutty Greens making good sense again. Talking to a teacher recently, it works well because schools have quite big downtime (holidays, weekends, minimal night usage) and what they generate can be fed back into the grid which further saves on their power bills.

    • Without reading it I like it because it places renewable energy and the science of renewable energy front and centre in childrens’ lives.

    • Absolutely. It’s about helping schools save money to spend on computers, books, playgrounds, music teachers….through producing their own clean energy and not paying an arm and a leg for power.

      • Just on that Gareth, while you are here and everything (haha), energy in this country is among the most expensive in the world and our wages are not up to it. Does your party have any ideas about redressing this very expensive energy to income ratio for low income families?
