A brief word on Murray McCully’s inquest into nothing – nobody was expecting the Spanish Inquisition, but we were expecting more than this

Ummmmmm, what?

Diplomat case: Attacks on sex inquiry’s terms of reference
The inquiry into the Government’s mistakes in its handling of the alleged sex case involving a Malaysian diplomat is being denounced for not specifically putting the roles of Foreign Minister Murray McCully and Prime Minister John Key under the microscope.

It is still uncertain when Muhammad Rizalman bin Ismail, 38, will return to New Zealand to stand trial. He is charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape Tania Billingsley, 22, who waived her automatic name suppression this week.

The Government has apologised for its mishandling of the case and set up a ministerial inquiry.

It has claimed it wanted Rizalman to stand trial in New Zealand, but an ambiguous message from a Government official led to the wrong impression that New Zealand was happy for Rizalman to invoke diplomatic immunity and leave the country.

Opposition parties attacked the inquiry’s terms of reference, released yesterday, for not specifically identifying the role of Mr McCully for scrutiny.

…let’s get this straight, Muzza is going to investigate this colossal misjudgment that put Tania Billingsley’s rights last but his actions and that of the Prime Minister will be free from any scrutiny?

We weren’t expecting the Spanish Inquisition, but we were expecting more than this! How can an inquiry that doesn’t look at McCully or Key’s role in letting this diplomat walk free be an inquiry? Shouldn’t we demand to know who put a NZ women’s rights to see justice against her alleged rapist behind that of the man alleged of that rape?

Even the most die hard I Love John Key fan club members can’t pretend an inquiry that doesn’t bother to investigate the two most responsible politicians is a distasteful response to the courage Billingsley has shown in standing up.

This is simply not good enough.

    • Paula also said there is a rape culture. Maybe that was before a powerful NAct male told her what she thought.

  1. This is all just standard practice when the word rape is mentioned. SSSHHH dont say it out loud.

Can you see it all clearly now?

This is the way of the beast called rape.

The right thing is seldom done, and why will this be any different. It will be silenced before anything is done – and in their heads, and many heads – she wasn’t ACTUALLY raped – just assaulted and attempted rape.
And the worst of the whole rape business, is that the hierarchy and the rapists all know that the victim has been put into a physical and psychological state where she cannot defend herself against the persecution that ensues.

They be violent, and they rape, women, and children, and babies, just because they can.

You just watch this whole rape revolution disappear as everyone starts to bury their heads back in the sand. Maybe even close down a few more rape crisis centers to really shut the victims up!

    Opinion and belief.
