It’s totally appropriate that I learn of Rik Mayall’s death on The Daily Blog . Another icon in the making . I had a flash back of Gin drinking , pot smoking , friends gathering , Sunday night savouring , Max Headroom and Radio With Pictures watching and wonderful , wonderful ‘The Young Ones’ in there too on our CRT TV . I taped them all and still have those tapes somewhere in boxes just in case sometime in the future I might find myself at grave risk of taking life far too seriously . I’m going down to my house and I’m going to dig them out and watch them with a tear in my eye . Nothing has ever been produced to equal The Young Ones . It’s originality and unique humour was sensational and not even the crass Americans dared to try to copy it . Rest in riotous hilarity Rick , you bastard x
