Headline: Darien Fenton not standing for re-election

Labour list MP Darien Fenton has announced she will not seek re-election at the September election.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served in Parliament as a Labour MP for nearly nine years,” Darien Fenton says.

“I came to Parliament with one aim, and that was to help make a better life for the low income service workers I have worked with over many years.

“My sincere hope is that this better life will come with the election of a Labour-led government in September because New Zealand desperately needs the change Labour will bring to hard-working people who continue to struggle from day to day.

“I thank my party, all of my colleagues, the union movement and particularly my union, the Service & Food Workers Union for the opportunity I have been given.

“I will be working hard as an MP right up to the election.

“After that, I will return to the coal-face to continue the fight for the dignity and respect workers deserve,” Darien Fenton says.
