TDB’s May Poll’s Been Kicked Off

The Daily Blog’s May poll has been kicked off, asking readers: What party will you likely vote for at this year’s General Election?

You will see this month’s poll in the right-hand sidebar of the site. (Please note this is a party vote poll not a preferred candidate poll.)

After receiving a number of requests, we have included an eleventh option: ‘None of the above’.

We will continue TDB’s site rolling poll, one poll for each month, through to the General Election.

Comparing the results will provide readers an interesting account of how this audience cumulatively accesses each party on merit and performance.

TDB-April-PollAs you can see from the graphic (left) the TDB April Poll saw 1468 people vote, pushing the Green Party to the top with 32% (down 1% on the March Poll).
Labour achieved 24% support (down 2% on the March Poll).
National came in at 18% (up 1% on the March Poll); Mana Movement received 11% support (up 3% on the March Poll); Internet Party came in at 4% (down 1% on the March Poll); then came ACT on 3% (no change on the March poll); New Zealand First on 3% (no change from the previous poll); Conservatives received 2% (no change on the March poll); Maori Party on 2% (no change on its March result); and last on the rank was United Future on 1% with just 11 votes (no change from the previous poll).

How the poll works:

So you know, each person gets to vote once for one single party of choice. So choose well.

We have settings that restrict the number of times a person can vote from their personal computer and IP. That is an attempt to prevent a person voting repeatedly, if we allowed that the results would not give us a sniff of the audience’s view overall.

As the month progresses, you will be able to see how the parties are doing. If your preference changes over the month, you will be able to reflect this change in your vote in next month’s poll.

For the record, TDB does not claim this poll to be scientific. We run it on TDB as an indicator of the cumulative audience’s political preferences. We also run it over a sustained period so as to reduce the manipulation effect that sudden flight arrivals of audiences pushed here from other sites may have on the results.

  1. Hi Selwyn – given the (or at least what I had assumed to be) essentially left wing readership of TDB, I find it astonishing that Labour only poll 6% above National, and that almost 1 in 5 that voted voted for National. Equally astonishing is that ACT, the Conservatives and the Maori Party (all aligned to the centre right), combine to almost 1 in 10 voters.

I will have to reassess my view of the TDB readership!

  2. Well, well, well… that will stretch the canvas of the ole broad tent! Good to see there’s relevancy in robust debate, irrespective of a person’s political persuasion.

  3. I’m puzzled. I see the list of parties, I see 222 people have voted so far. But when I click on the party of my choice, nothing happens.

    • Paul, that’s a weird comment, particularly as we state clearly above: ‘For the record, TDB does not claim this poll to be scientific. We run it on TDB as an indicator of the cumulative audience’s political preferences.’

So, to spell it out simply for you, the poll is there to show us and the audience what the specific make up of political party preferences/views are among each month’s visitors. As such, the results are helpful on a number of fronts.

the sheer stupidity and meaninglessness of a political poll on a manic socialist blog site like this is incredible.

Comrade Paul, a big hearty Socialist Welcome to our little corner of Marxist-Leninist-Maoist-Etc Paradise. We home you enjoy communing with us, your fellow Lefties, here.
