Evidently, Shane Taurima’s links with Labour are a “conflict of interest“;

But it’s not a conflict of interest when journalists work for NationalPrime Ministers, MPs, or even become National Members of Parliament themselves,

What sort of “conflict on interest” existed when Barry and Griffin were working at Radio NZ, interviewing political figures?

We don’t know.  Because their political affiliations/beliefs were not disclosed at the time.

As Maggie Barry and Richard Griffin – can we be certain that their pro-National prejudices did not unfairly impact on Labour and other left-wing political figures they interviewed?

So how is Shane Taurima any different?

Well, he is on the Left, for starters.

And, he has brown skin…

  1. Paul Henry would have to be a prime example of political bias how on Earth was he allowed to get away with saying to David Cunliffe ” but I would never vote for you anyway.” DC was visibly flabbergasted and came back with a retort sometime along the lines of “aren’t you suppose to be neutral as a broadcaster.” Henry replied “nah not me or something like that, anyway it was a ‘serious lapse of judgment’

Then less than a few minutes later he interviews John Key. After what he had said to DC I half expected him to be at least consistent and say “I will vote for you John.”

As its a live show and in the interest of fairness why didn’t TVNZ make Henry say sorry the next show?

I watched Henry’s show last night just to see if the egotist would have a crack at Shane and how far he would go with his rightwing bias. I shook my head in disgust at the fucking hypocrite!

So tell me why don’t TVNZ broaden the investigation out to cover the likes of front men Henry & Hosking, both known Labour haters!

    • The problem is, we have an Official Information Act, that allows persons in the public (also private media operators) to “dig” into the details behind the scenes of publicly owned media organisations like TVNZ, Maori TV, but that are not applied to PRIVATE media organisations.

Hence private and corporate media always have that legal advantage, to force public players for “transparency”, while themselves being able to hide behind the law, and that is also privacy laws.

Who knows what goes on at TV3 and Media Works, few will, but it is pretty easy to push TVNZ and Maori TV and Radio NZ to publish what they do or do not do.

This is not right, I would say, it is NOT fair play!

    • Cunliffe should have replied along the lines of “That’s great. We were worried that we weren’t doing enough to not win the overpaid racist toxic schoolboy dwarf vote. Key can have you.”

  2. Come on Frank, do you really think that the media should be allowed to be independent? I heard former Radio NZ hack, also TV staffer, now Radio Live “personality” Sean Plunket (Plonker) on his talk back this morning, assuring his listeners, he was soooo “independent” and believed in media “independence”, that was why he also left his former employer “Radio NZ”, as they could not accept his staunch stand for “independence”.

This is just one example, and I could list a whole range of “media personalities”, including Garner, Espiner, Gower, Smith and so forth, who are all truly “to the right”, but never admit it, and claim they are “independent” and “neutral”.

I suppose it is a very SUBJECTIVE assessment they make.

So we sadly have the sad Shane Taurima example, and I am angry about what he did, and how foolish he was, but amongst the whole lot of journalists, reporters, moderators and “media personalities”, he was in his performance astonishingly neutral, respectful and fair, despite of his later Labour Party affiliation and aspirations.

I am sick of hearing from all those other clearly biased media persons, that they “are not a party member”, but are so clearly displaying their personal bias daily, with comments mostly favouring National, Key, business, the status quo, the celebrities doing well, but having no damned time for the worse off, and the poor, and alternative social and economic ideas.

We are being taken for a dirty ride by the media, that is the MSM lot, as they are the ones that are mercenaries for the ones that feed their mouthes, and they will never bite the hand that feeds them (commercial business and own interests), so no damned surprises there, no mater what crap they tell us.

  3. Hosking and Henry are so far right in their public opinions and support for John Key they must have potraits of John Key hanging above their beds.

  4. Journalists like everyone else come to their work with all the biases and prejudices that make them the journalists they are. Those who say they are objective are foolish and I believe worse off for this belief. Taurima worked in a world where to be good he had to be 10 times better, 10 times more objective, 10 times the fortitude than anyone else – to be very good etc etc…..because he is Māori. He too would have been ‘burdened’ by his prejudices and beliefs. Unfortunately though if you can’t hunt with the wolves then you’re going to get eaten. And because he chose not to hunt with the wolves he’s been chewed up and spat out. There must be something more to this. He’s not stupid and I can’t believe he would make such a huge mistake unless….But I guess we will never know that ‘unless’ because the pack has turned on him.

  5. The Tory Journalists have been like rabid dogs climbing into Taurima, whether it is a racist thing or a Labour thing I am not sure, Henry for sure is a right wing white supremist you only have to look at his track record and after all he migrated here from the Colonial Mother Country.

    • Hi Jack I don’t think it’s specifically about Labour or race. I think it’s more about a journalist who offered another ‘bias’ therefore he needed to be gotten rid of. I don’t think a man in Taurima’s position would be that stupid.
