When ever Colin wants to bully anyone pointing out the deep seated bigotry of his far right religious views he threatens to send the lawyers in for defamation, unfortunately for Colin, he’s trying this tactic against a politician who has no fear of stepping up to fight.

I was at the Big Gay Out and heard Russel Norman speak and the vast wave of laughter that erupted from the crowd when they heard what he had to say regarding Colin legitimises the tone and humour and satire of what Russel was saying.

Colin’s comeback that he can’t be sexist because he knows how to cook a roast is about as out of touch as his comments on Marriage Equality, promiscuous women in NZ, chemtrials, global warming and fake moon landings.

What seems to be driving this is Colin knowing he has been out of the media spotlight for a couple of months and so he is threatening to bully Russel in the hope of winning some of that limelight back, problem is Russ ain’t one for being intimated. This is a man who was more than happy to be pushed around and assaulted by Chinese goons while holding up a Tibetan flag, if he can cope with that, he can cope with Colin Craig.

Colin will come off worse in this fight, he’s picked the wrong politician to try and bully.

  1. Compared to those chinese goons, Colin Craig is a limp, wet, bus ticket with astoundingly, asinine opinions and a whimpering dependency on defamation threats, Anyone who regularly forgets his opinion of history is too wobbly to deserve attention.

    • Given Dr Norman’s stand on the Chinese, I am assuming that these solar panels that he is proposing to lend us will not be made in China?

        • Yes it would be better made if they were made in NZ, but it will never happen because of the minimum wage,

It is easier to exploit low paid Chinese workers to get your fix of middle class Green tokenism

          • Clean electricity is “middle class tokenism”?! Andy, I thought you were in favour of clean energy?

And pray tell, how does installing solar panels differ from insulating homes (which National funded to the tune of $1 billion)?

            • Insulating homes differs greatly from installing solar PV

For a start, there is a good chance that the insulation will retain its properties after 25 years. The solar PV, will on the other hand, be worthless, and probably in a lot quicker than 25 years.

Can you think of any consumer electronic equipment that lasts even a fraction of this time?

I am in the process of designing a new home. In terms of energy efficiency, priorities are this:

              1) Passive heating by correct position of house and windows
              2) Insulation
              3) Double glazing
              4) Central heating that doesn’t tie us into a particular fuel type (boilers can be retro-fitted whilst keeping radiators/underfloor heating)
              5) Air heat pump for short term heat
              6) Solar hot water
              7) Geothermal heat pump
              8) Solar PV

Getting to point (6) is probably as far as we will get though

              • Hi Andy

Been there, done that about 3 years ago with a virtual rebuild of an old house. After considerable research, we did 1, 2 and 5 on your list. Things may have changed, but we looked at solar and it just didn’t stack up – it took the lifetime of the panels to pay for them!

The really funny part was when all was said and done, the solar guys decided they couldn’t fit solar panels on our new roof construction (asphalt shingles) anyway because of fears over weather tightness. This is hilarious, considering asphalt shingles are an increasingly popular roofing because they are lightweight and often save $$’s on steel.

  2. Mr Craig is certainly getting lots of publicity from this. I heard his name mentioned on about six separate occasions on National Radio last night, and then on TV when I got home.

At least we will not stop hearing about Colin Craig in election year. Maybe someone should call Russel Norman a “death loving eco-fascist communist Aussie” to see if we get get a bit more publicity for the Greens?

    • has anyone got the flyer with the too gay for hellensville comment?

because unless its clearly attributed as “the opinion of some guy who said something to me once” craig has commited the exact same offense hes getting pissy about

  3. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Norman made a statement as if it were fact when he said “Now the thing about Colin Craig is he thinks that a woman’s place is in the kitchen and a gay man’s place is in the closet.”

If the case goes ahead it will be interesting to see how relevant context & tone is versus actual words used.

Then there is the fact that Craig has made his views on such issues very clear. He is clearly old school where women are concerned & is very anti same sex relationships & marriage & uses questionable research to back-up his ludicrous views, but whether he has actually said gays must hide their gayness & women should be chained to the kitchen sink is another thing altogether.

My guess is Norman will have to back down.

    • Unsol – the thing I find funny about this is that Craig’s first ‘bruising scrap’ is with… the Greens?! I mean – really?! A bunch of vegan, tree-hugging, pacifists? (To employ a few common cliches.)

If Craig runs to his lawyers because he was offended by something a Green MP said about him – wait till he comes up hard against Winston Peters, Judith Collins, or Trevor Mallard! Even Craig’s invisible friend won’t be able to shield him from that Unholy Trinity!

“…but whether he has actually said gays must hide their gayness & women should be chained to the kitchen sink is another thing altogether. “

Sometimes these things don’t need to be spelled out in black and white. “Code” is sufficient to spread a certain message, without actually having to say it.

As to whether Norman will back down? I think he’ll just ignore Craig.

      • “If Craig runs to his lawyers because he was offended by something a Green MP said about him – wait till he comes up hard against Winston Peters, Judith Collins, or Trevor Mallard! Even Craig’s invisible friend won’t be able to shield him from that Unholy Trinity!”

        Haha so true!

I think the real telling thing will be when one of Craig’s employees comes out & says he is gay……that will be the true test of how much of a bigot Craig is. If he has gay staff then Norman will have difficulty in proving his case after all, there is religious acceptance if say Craig doesn’t mind gays so long as they don’t try to destroy the sanctity of marriage!

  4. I don’t see how Colon Craig can possibly claim he’s being defamed. Among his supporters, the idea that women should be 1950s housewives and gays should be hidden would only increase his standing. His reputation among those that matter to him would be enhanced by having a “poofter Aussie commo watermelon” casting disparaging remarks. His lawyers must be laughing. They’ve found a gift that will keep on giving, and in a way that doesn’t need medicating like the herpes that promiscuous women might give god fearing young Colonservatives.

  5. Craig is getting a good bang for his buck appealing to his Conservative target market with the proposed Court Case.

  6. Craig running to court over this is no different to Turei running to ‘racism’ over comments about her lifestyle.
