SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: One is a right wing crypto-fascist climate denying clown hell bent on mining and drilling the future away – the other is Tony Abbot

I love how Key attacks Maori, beneficiaries & environmentalists, but won’t pick a fight with Australia over how they treat Kiwis. It’s gutless. The discrimination Kiwis face in Australia when they pay tax is an insult and what is Key’s response?

Kiwis ‘guest workers’ in Australia – Key
Kiwis should get used to being Australia’s “guest workers” for the foreseeable future, Prime Minister John Key said after the conclusion of his annual bilateral talks with his Australian counterpart.

…this response is almost as gutless, ALMOST, as Labour’s original capitulation in 2001. It’s all very well and good for Labour to criticise Key’s position on this, but how about some reflection on Helen’s decision to give away so much in 2001?

In regards to the ‘Buy Australian made’ campaign, the issue is not ‘how dare Australia do that’, the issue is ‘why the hell is NZ not doing that’?

  1. I’ve long since given up on Key. The man is simply not to be trusted. My partner, who is a long time National-Labour swing voter will be voting Labour this year. Every time he sees Key on TV now he asks “I wonder what he’s going to be bullshitting us this time?”

  2. Good point. New Zealand could do that. But I predict that it would have two effects, namely to remove the average New Zealanders ability and freedom to choose to buy the product which best suits their needs and budget, and, knowing our propensity to taking most things too far, could lead to product and price regulation from producers and suppliers who struggle to compete with imported products. Either way, the end result would lead to the suffering of the very people you claim to represent.

Anyway, why do we have to push to ban this, regulate that. What ever happened to good old-fashioned vote with your feet, let’s only buy locally made products type of thinking?

  3. nz’s major export to aussie is beneficiaries, so you can hardly blame aussie for not wanting them. our social welfare are silly enough to pay for them to get there, and pay for them to sit on a benefit, why should aussie pay?

and besides, many of our beneficiaries are only chinese who didn’t qualify to get into aussie in the first place, so come through nz on our state education, then take off over there as soon as they can get a kiwi passport.

just because nz are silly enough to give away our citizenship and welfare to anyone smart enough to sob their way in, doesn’t mean every country has to.

instead of whining about aussie, nz should wake up and follow suit.

    • Shit Warren, the way you don’t let a single fact get in the way of your right wing bigotry would be impressive if it weren’t so sick. The Kiwis in Oz have a lower rate of unemployment than your fair dinkum Aussies, they pay taxes specially earmarked for services they are prevented from receiving, etc, etc….But why bother? It’s easier to fill your head up with shit.

      • Thanks Frank and Ovicula. Exactly what I was thinking when I read Warrens post. WTF! Its gotta be a joke, surely no one really thinks like that, do they?

    • WARREN has no clue about the rules for New Zealanders going to live in Australia now!

Quote: “nz’s major export to aussie is beneficiaries, so you can hardly blame aussie for not wanting them.”

Why blame an unemployed person for going to Australia to start a job there, as without a job it will mean only living off relatives or sleeping under the bridge (once any savings are used up).

If your own country (i.e. New Zealand) cannot offer you a job in your field, and cannot offer you a decent income a person can live off, why blame the person to take advantage of access to another country, to legally work there?

It is though NOT possible for Kiwis to go there and join the line of the dole queues, Warren, you are an IDIOT or misinformed!

  4. Time to start boycotting Aussie goods on the Supermarket shelves and get Countdown customers to shift their loyalties to NZ owned food distributors New World, PaknSave & 4Squares etc these are NZ franchises of the Foodstuffs Group who all store owners are shareholders in. New Zealanders need to be more patriotic and support NZ business owners and suppliers.

John Key should be advocated this rather than his ideological Free Trade Agreements which are all BS.

  5. Warren! Your comment is racist and with out any factual basis whatsoever.

To digress, another point which is noticably absent is that no one seems to be aware that some NZers are children or grand children of Australians. my maternal grandfather was born & raised in Melbourne.

  6. I decided to comment on this topic after all, after hearing a rant by Duncan Garner on Radio Live yesterday, telling Kiwis who gave you their own country to live and work in Australia, to get stuffed (in his words).

Garner and others in the media, mainly on talk back, have expressed in rather rude terms their views of Kiwis who have chosen to live and work in Australia. They claim they knew full well what they let themselves into, or at least should have known. They also attack Cunliffe as Labour leader for having criticised Key for not representing the interests of New Zealanders in Australia strong enough.

I have this to say to Garner and others, take a fucking hike, man, where is your “independence” and fact based reporting as a journalist or damned “media personality”, I ask? You are not independent, and like many always tend to give less critical comments to government decisions, policies and actions, while slamming the opposition, be they from Labour, Greens or Mana.

Now, the New Zealanders in Australia, while some of us here may resent them for having left the ship for greener pastures, it is a duty of a Prime Minister and the government of New Zealand to represent the interests of New Zealanders living elsewhere in any country. Key has done this in the UK not long ago, so what makes Australia different to the UK then?

All governments and leaders from civilised, developed countries do speak out to ensure the interests and rights of citizens of their country are met and respected, when talking to leaders of other countries they visit on formal government visits! This is not unusual, it is the rule! The UK government will do this, the French Government, the German government, the Australian government also (look at a convicted drug trafficer now allowed to spend remaining 3 years outside of prison on Bali).

Even if citizens may have done something wrong, governments tend to raise issues if they do not get fair treatment in other countries. So what is wrong with David Cunliffe demanding the PM take a firmer stand on how Kiwis in Australia are treated differently to other migrants, when it comes to long term rights for residency, access to health and education, access to certain welfare or income support? When New Zealand treats others well, New Zealanders can expect to be treated well also by the countries where those others come from, that is fair diplomacy, economic and social policy, I would think.

New Zealand grants Australian a lot of benefit when living here, and that in itself shows goodwill on the part of New Zealand, which should be made known to the Australian leader Abbott.

But the truth is Abbott is a jerk, does not give a damn, could not care less about Kiwis, so Key found no support from a political ally there. He was left to try boot licking, and it did not work. We are now in a situation where it is me first, we look after ourselves, and stuff you, if you come to live in our country, or if you want your goods sold in our country.

As a small nation and economy New Zealand will only suffer, and here we have the proof, that CER and free trade do not necessarily (always) have benefits for us! Key is a jerk when he calls Cunliffe an idiot, for raising issues about his failure. This lowering of discourse standards on political issues shows Key is feeling the pressure.

So I can only encourage Cunliffe and Norman and others, keep up the pressure on Key, as he will crack under it! Finally people will see what a weak hypocrite and sell-out artist John Key is!

    Amen
