Headline: Urgent action needed on animal abuse reports
New Zealand relies heavily on our reputation for good animal welfare to sell our animal products
The reports of animal abuse occurring on overseas farms owned by a New Zealand company are highly concerning and the owners must take immediate action to ensure these abuses stop, the Green Party said today.
“New Zealand relies heavily on our reputation for good animal welfare to sell our animal products. It is essential that New Zealand companies show leadership on this issue,” Green Party animal welfare spokesperson Mojo Mathers said.
“The New Zealand owners of this company must act quickly and strongly to ensure that the animals they are responsible for are looked after to a decent standard,” said Ms Mathers.
“All New Zealand companies should ensure that they meet New Zealand animal welfare standards, including in their overseas operations.
“Our whole country’s reputation is at stake when animal abuses occur on New Zealand owned overseas farms.
