Dear Auckland Transport

Don’t you dare share my information to a 3rd party you evil pricks

yours sincerly
M Bradbury

Rather than selling passenger info to some scummy information data mining sleaze bag, I wish Auckland Transport could just create a public transport system that at least allows passengers the possibility of paying.

During the pigs muddle that the transfer of payment method has become, passengers have no idea what service is using which card as some have differing swap over dates.

As a devout public transport user who is painfully aware of Auckland Transport’s short commings, I can’t see how or why 181 of their management team deserve salaries in excess of $100 000, especially when their drivers are paid a pittance and have to threaten strikes to get crumbs as increases. That’s almost 20% of their work force.

Add to this the steep fare increases being mooted and we seem to have a monopoly monster who doesn’t give a damn about the end service they are providing.

  1. Perhaps if all Ak Transport staff from management down had to give up council cars and carparks, and had to USE the damn ‘service’, we might see imrpovements. But I doubt it.As another long-time user,I am frustrated that services don’t link up properly, that terminals/interchanges are (excepting Britomart) run down and unsafe, that most bus stops are unlit, open to the weather, and uncomfortable, and that services stop between 11.00 PM AND 06.00 AM.I have had to turn down jobs because of this(I am currently unemployed).
Perhaps ALL our servants (the entire council) should have to use the busses trains….

  2. Well, I have seen and heard that they are now also closing down many bus stops in areas in Auckland.

While I agree that in some places bus stops only a couple of hundred metres apart may justify a review of how many there are really needed, it will hardly encourage more people to use buses.

What about the elderly, the disabled and others, who may not be able to walk longer distances?

To shut down bus stops does hardly give any incentives for people to change from using cars to buses.

I just wonder what is going on in the heads at the top at Auckland Transport and the Council.

  3. I just heard the current duel card system will be with us till February! Bus-abouts are a thing of the past and the $140 monthly passes …. The monthly $140 pass can only be used on either Snapper or AT Hop (you’d think a receipt would cover “proof of purchase” regardless of the card system in play) AT are saying “While we have 2 card systems in operation, you must buy your monthly pass for both cards”

    That’s $280 per month for a $140 service …

It’s not like AT can tell me if the next bus to arrive will require an AT or Snapper card. It’s not like I can go to the ‘Journey Planner’ and it say “The 249 Metrolink bus, arriving at 11.40am, accept At Hop”
There’s also no indication – till the bus arrives – what card is required!

I could accept this situation (JUST) while it was only going to be happening for a “couple of weeks”! For it to be dragging on till February is patently ridiculous (and a good money making grab for Auckland Transport)

They also advertise the AT hop a zone monthly pass covering from New Lynn to Otahuhu … If the AT card is not accepted on the bus going to Otahuhu – how the hell can they advertise (and sell) cards under such false advertising? Surely, this is fraud AT are committing?
