Headline: Give Phillipstown a break

What Christchurch East needs is support from the Government, not a never-ending fight just to keep their successful and growing school open.

The Green Party is questioning whether Hekia Parata is carrying out a genuine consultation with Phillipstown school when it’s clear that she has a pre-determined view about its merger.

Today the Minister of Education announced she will not appeal the High Court’s ruling that her consultation process with Phillipstown School was illegal.

“It’s obvious that Hekia Parata still wants to merge the school, but now she’s going to try to use a proper process as opposed to the failed illegal process she used last time,” Green Party education spokesperson Catherine Delahunty said today.

“Today’s decision means that this community is going to have to keep fighting to keep this successful school with a growing role open,” said Ms Delahunty.

“Phillipstown’s roll is growing and the school is an important part of a community that is rebuilding.

“What Christchurch East needs is support from the Government, not a never-ending fight just to keep their successful and growing school open.

“The Minister should be backing away from the proposal to merge because the school made its position very clear, and it won.

“Hekia Parata is hell-bent on damaging this community who are working so hard to rebuild.

“There is no justification for this merger and Hekia Parata needs to give it up.”

  1. Who knows what is best for Phillipstown school?

The school (principal, teachers, pupils and their parents)

    or

    Parata

I know what is not good for Phillipstown school. To be forced into change which is not wanted and change which cannot be justified.
