I’m sorry, but continuing to mention Grant’s sexual orientation as a question doesn’t absolve the media and pundits from asking it. Those assertions merely confirm prejudice, they don’t challenge them.

Grant’s sexuality has nothing to do with his abilities as leader of a political party and the media and punditry should aspire to asking better questions that don’t drip with ignorance.

Grant is a fantastic bloke and the country would be lucky if he was its leader, to continue to use his homosexuality as some sort of excuse is beneath him and beneath the country.

  1. Thank you for writing this. I feel disgusted to call myself a NZer simply because of this attack on Grant Robertson. He possesses more leadership and caring in his little finger than the straight John Key!!! Who ever thought up this disgusting dribble on him not being a good enough leader because he is gay, seems to have forgotten how we just passed the gay marriage Bill, and were witness to the first NZ gay marriages. The majority of New Zealand was behind that!!! I hope New Zealand starts to realise that we are NOT America, and to vote Mr Key out, because he is turning us into America.

  2. It is absolutely a relevant question. With NZ 10-50% homophobic the left will lose the election. Georgina Beyer said so. She should know.

  3. I thought it didn’t/wouldn’t matter, but with every mainstream media outlet asking the question over the last several days I’ve started to think it might, and am very disappointed about that.

  4. I love how gay marriage was a victory for progressive N.Z and we now have a much more tolerant society.

    add cliche here…

SO the sexy guy on Grants arm is his partner…

So we get another traction for distraction.

So lets ignore policy, content and leadership – let’s do a fluff piece and pretend it’s real journalism.

The only time media should talk about sex is how it should be consensual and that adult play time is bloody awesome!!!

  5. @ Adam , Haha !

Look how far NZ’s come ? It’s hoisted up it’s big boy/girl panties and it’s strutting it’s stuff around ! I’m actually kind of proud of New Zealanders right now .
Look at us ! We’re actually protesting at rally’s and everything and I reckon Blogging has played a significant part in that movement .

I’m Straight . I’m more Straight than an arrow but I have many Gay friends . My closest friends are Gay when I come to think about it ( yea , yea . I know how that sounds ) and I think it’s stupendous that we have a Gay politician as sparkly as Grant Robertson . He did freak me out a little with him feeling ‘ blessed ‘ but I’m over that now . Call me old fashioned but I have a deep mistrust of anything religious . I’ve seen him in action politically and he’s got quite the set of balls so I hope he knocks jonky over with them time and again .

New Zealand’s turned around . I can feel it in my bones . The worst is over . Jonky can just fuck right off to Hawaii . Or better still , Balclutha .

And here’s solemn words of caution for the Labour Party .

Get the Farmer in-side . Bring them in out of the cold ocean of National Party lies , psychological enslavement and debt and warm them up with a little humanity . Kindness , like cruelty , returns like with like . The victims of abuse will understand that concept . The chief coroner said that farmers were a significant part of the appalling suicide rates in New Zealand at over 500 a year . If Labour charms the Farmer dollar from the Neo-Nats , victory is assured and New Zealand will see a long period of peace and prosperity . Our cultural heart will start beating again and our Renaissance will impress the world .

In the words of soulless Jonky himself ; mark my words .
