Brothers and Sisters, we can not go quietly into the night of a mass surveillance state. This is our last chance to show our unified disgust at this Government’s GCSB and TICS Bill and we must stand together to send a clear message to John Key who tells everyone who will listen that we are ‘misinformed’ on these issues.

Here is the Facebook Page – please invite as many as you can to this evening via social media.

If you can’t make it in person, The Daily Blog will be streaming the whole event live for free here on site from 7pm and we will provide the entire meeting on demand after the event for free, because that’s how we roll.

This is our Democracy at stake.

On the night we will keep the doors open until we reach capacity, so come early to guarantee a seat and bring friends.

Here are the confirmed speakers for the night…

Dr Rodney Harrison QC (presented the Law Society submission on GCSB Bill)
Kim Dotcom (the most high profile victim of illegal GCSB spying)
Jon Stephenson (journalist and war correspondent)
Seeby Woodhouse (Founder of Orcon ISP and 2004 NZ Young Entrepreneur of the Year)
Helen Kelly (CTU President)
Professor Jane Kelsey (Law Faculty Auckland University)
Marama Davidson (Maori activist and blogger)
Russel Norman (Green Party Leader)
Hone Harawira (Mana Party Leader)

UPDATE: Winston Peters is now joining us to speak against the GCSB

The Town Hall is supposed to be our public square for democratic debate, join us and help make it that once again.

Extra speakers announced on Friday.

  1. What an excellent night you will have, lots of good brains up there speaking, I wish I could be there to support, I will be down here watching the live streaming ….stand up , fight back

    • David Cunliffe has already spoken eloquently about the dangers of this bill. He is the obvious choice unless of course his leader, David Shearer is willing and able to front…

  2. Fabulous line-up. Where’s the Labour Party? If they don’t stand on this podium I won’t believe they have an intention to repeal the Bill.

  3. What’s the point in Winston speaking he supports the Bill providing there is a 3 man oversight committee. Any type of support or compromise is wrong there is no middle ground for this Bill. The GCSB is supposed to be spying on people living in caves in Afghanistan not living in State housing in South Auckland.

  4. Most excellent lineup. Id pay for tickets to that concert!!! Give ’em heaps guys!
My assumption is that the opposition has not responded to the invite? maybe it was taken out of their mailbox! dirty tactics afoot indeed!
    ROCK ON!
