TV Review: The Nation

This was easily one of the best episodes this year, the focus on the extraordinary latest twist in the Andrea Vance meltdown was fascinating viewing.

You know when a Government does a 4.30pm Friday dump they are screwed.

Russel Norman and Grant Robertson tore the facade of an accidental release to pieces with a precision of laser scoped duck shooting in a barrel.

The Government narrative that Vance’s emails were accidentally sent to the Henry Inquiry is total bullshit. Key’s Chief of Staff demanded the content of Vance’s emails and it was only when they couldn’t open them that the checks & balances kicked in. This is a stinking scam of a lie and 1000% media spin scumbaggery.
Patrick Gower provided the voice of the Fourth Estate, Gavin Ellis was excellent in pointing out the constitutional over reach and Colin James was damning in his assessment of the political management. When a man as connected as James says there are more bodies to come from this, Wayne Eagleson should be contemplating some gardening time.

The most interesting clash was Joyce and Rachel Smalley. It was an incredible insight into the free fall panic that has gripped the National Party Leadership over this imploding privacy breach issue.  Joyce’s astoundingly aggressive and defensive hectoring of Rachel Smalley said more than any of the nonsense that came out of his mouth as he attempted to side step the criticism.

Great episode.

  1. I agree it was a very good episode. I am concerned that John Keys National continue to use this obnoxious megaphone to settle this obviously declining debate. I am upset that Colin James was cutoff in one of his rebuttal attempts, as his view is clearly speaking what us New Zealanders need to hear. I am also concerned, that although Dr Norman is speaking very clearly and in short easily understood statements, nobody is listening to him. Give that man a Joyce I say!!

another good one Mr Bradbury, thank you.

  2. Stephen Joyce fronts for Key again and,as usual, Joyce sneers at Robertson in one of his typical ad hominum remarks before going on to be incredibly rude and hectoring to the interviewer. This is classic Joyce. He operates this way in parliament all the time which often causes the Speaker to question the need for such behaviour.

My question is ‘why is Key not fronting?’ He will not appear on TV1 or TV3. He very seldom fronts on National Radio. When he answers questions in the House, we get mumbling, incoherent and often inarticulate answers.

Is he unwell? Increasingly he looks it. Is this why we are not seeing the so-called leader of this country?

  3. (i thought joyce was channeling muldoon..)

“..first up is norman..followed by robertson..

..and they have both been reading the document-dump from last night..

    ..and what came from that..

..is that either peter dunne or the inquiry-head henry are lying..

..both of them cannot be telling the truth..

(ed:..and to be honest..tho’ having a high level of contempt for the man..the facts seem to favour dunne as the truth-teller on this particular aspect of this clusterfuck..)..”

    phillip ure..

  4. Yes very good television
It does seem that Key’s honeymoon with the
non mind numbing media is over
I am very worried that his replacement could be
that most evil person we saw today as his representative
