Gender equality is not when excellent women can get as far ahead as mediocre men

I’m having an awful moment suspecting that the mainstream media are going on and on and on about the ‘man ban’ just because it rhymes.

The news media should be focusing on the ‘Dotcom Key Bomb’ rather than ‘Man Ban’. How can the largest erosion of civil liberties since the ’51 Waterfront lockout get eclipsed by the fear of white men being disadvantaged?

Doesn’t it concern anyone else that we don’t have a sophisticated enough media to focus on the Government gaining the legal right to spy on all of us in favour of white men being supposedly discriminated against?

How can bloody Whale Oil of all crypto-fascist clowns have this level of influence over the political news editors of NZ?

Arn’t these the exact same tired voices that become raised over minority placements at Universities and Maori electorates?

Last time I checked, white males were enjoying the same level of invisible privilege they’ve always enjoyed so cry me a river Mike Williams.

The real risk for Shearer now is that the many supporters within Labour who have put these recommendations in front of Caucus for several months and who have worked on making the Labour Party the modern day diverse political party it needs to become to future proof its vote are going to calculate Shearer is toast regardless and force this issue through in November in open rebellion for how he’s seemingly left them high and dry.

The political mismanagement of this is as extraordinary as Shearer’s visit to the Sky City Corporate Box and his press release wanting to ‘terrorize’ his opponents in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election.

The country is screaming for an opposition, where on Earth is the Labour Party?

  1. Interesting that it is being called ‘man ban’ – making men the point of reference. I guess “making parliament a more representative forum” just doesn’t have the same ring to it….not to mention ‘correcting the privilege of the past 2000 years.”

  2. ‘The country is screaming for an Opposition’. Well, yeah, but – no – but…

Or is there some significance to the lower case ‘o’ ATL?

Many of us oppose many of the laws and regs (or lack, thereof) inflicted on us by the parliament of this country.

And we have no voice or presentation.

    Haven’t had for years.

How about a complete overhaul of this silly system? How about a few more civic demands on the inhabitants to participate in the running of the village or the nation?

Rod Donald was in favour of parliamentary reform. Did the intention pass with him?
