TDB-Parl-Live-Coming-Up!3-ThursdayAt 2pm Thursday PQT host Martyn Bradbury was joined by MP Gareth Hughes: (direct from the debating chamber) to take part in TDB Live’s Parliamentary Question Time feature PQT.

The following is a transcript of the commentary:

2:33 PM Gareth Hughes: Homeless Kiwis need support not to be swept off the streets

2:34 PM Gareth Hughes: If we used Aussie definition of homelessness we would have tens of thousands of homeless here, yet Smith thinks it’s ‘esoteric’

2:34 PM Martyn Bradbury: the long line of beggars in NZ are testament to the lie of our egalitarian pretense

2:34 PM Gareth Hughes: Not the Minister of Housing, he is the Minister for Developers

2:36 PM Martyn Bradbury: see no homeless, hear no homeless, speak no homeless – that’ll solve it

2:37 PM Gareth Hughes: Just like their cunning plan to remove numbers on waiting list for state houses….by literally just changing categories and taking them off the list

2:38 PM Martyn Bradbury: they are doing it social welfare as well

2:39 PM Martyn Bradbury: National are creating ‘unpeople’ – citizens who don’t fall into the limited thresholds for help

2:39 PM Martyn Bradbury: Dr PAUL HUTCHISON to the Associate Minister of Health: What investment has this Government made to improve eating disorders services?

2:40 PM Gareth Hughes: Is this his first QT?

2:41 PM Martyn Bradbury: Hon LIANNE DALZIEL to the Minister for Building and Construction: When was the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment first made aware of the September IANZ report which warned the

2:41 PM Martyn Bradbury: Christchurch City Council that “Continued accreditation beyond May 2013 will depend on a satisfactory outcome of that assessment”, and when was he advised of the content of the report?

2:41 PM Martyn Bradbury: fascinating decision to just over rule Chch

2:42 PM Gareth Hughes: …part of a pattern.

2:43 PM Martyn Bradbury: Maybe the National Party 2014 election slogan should be ‘The NZ National Party – Resistance is futile’

2:45 PM Gareth Hughes: Nice Q from Dalziel

2:45 PM Martyn Bradbury: very good

2:47 PM Gareth Hughes: Chch East will be fascinating election.

2:47 PM Martyn Bradbury: Dalziel bringing up really good questions of how central Government have been far too hands off until the last minute

2:48 PM Martyn Bradbury: JAN LOGIE to the Minister of Women’s Affairs: What has she done to address the Human Rights Commission’s criticism of the prevailing “pale ambition for women’s progress in New Zealand”?

2:50 PM Martyn Bradbury: appointing a man to a board on womens advancement is – well – bizarre

2:51 PM Martyn Bradbury: why were only 15% of honours handed out to women if National are so focused on lifting women?

2:54 PM Martyn Bradbury: Jan Logie doing a very good job of slow roasting Government

2:55 PM Gareth Hughes: yeah a good series of Qs. With only 4 supplementary questions she’s done a good job painting a picture of a Govt that doesn’t care

2:55 PM Martyn Bradbury: She’s very good

2:56 PM Gareth Hughes: Well I find Next magazine hard to find

2:56 PM Martyn Bradbury: Hon PETER DUNNE to the Minister of Conservation: What are his legislative priorities for the balance of this year?

2:56 PM Gareth Hughes: Suprised the answer wasn’t mining it

2:57 PM Gareth Hughes: Dunne trying to look relevant after his fall from Grace with these questions

2:57 PM Martyn Bradbury: Heli-hunting? That’s what Peter Dunne has been reduced to?

2:57 PM Gareth Hughes: HUGE issue in Ohariu

2:58 PM Martyn Bradbury: KRIS FAAFOI to the Minister of Police: Does she agree with the issues raised by the 2013 Police Association survey referred to in the July edition of Police News; if not, why not?

2:59 PM Martyn Bradbury: Tolley can’t help but bash unions, even when they are Police Unions

2:59 PM Gareth Hughes: When will the Nats realise the last Labour Govt was actually a long time ago and they can’t keep blaming them

3:00 PM Martyn Bradbury: If you have to blame things half a decade ago to explain inaction today you havn’t done a very good job

3:01 PM Martyn Bradbury: Richard Prosser?

3:02 PM Martyn Bradbury: He’d have a good opinion on hidden pocket knives

3:04 PM Gareth Hughes: wonder why Faafoi points to a figure (that was worse under Labour) if they were together in the report he quotes if Tolley right

3:04 PM Gareth Hughes: Did he think she wouldn’t read it?

3:04 PM Martyn Bradbury: I’m glad you noted that too

3:04 PM Martyn Bradbury: He’s not doing a very good job is he?

3:05 PM Martyn Bradbury: Swing – miss. Swing – miss. Swing – miss. Thank you Kris Faafoi

3:05 PM Gareth Hughes: But I guess who reads Police News? Still probably more than Red Alert

3:06 PM Gareth Hughes: I guess it all goes to what is your objective for asking questions. Perhaps Faafoi just wants to show he’s asking questions on Police’s behalf

3:07 PM Martyn Bradbury: The Police are happier under National because National give the Police everything they want

3:09 PM Martyn Bradbury: and that’s the Parliamentary question time – thank you Gareth, have a great weekend

3:10 PM Gareth Hughes: Thank you. I’ve enjoyed the experience and it’s great to see the interest in Question Time from things like this and Twitter. Thanks for increasing political discussion in Aotearoa NZ…
