Prison smoking ban ruled ‘unlawful’
Career criminal Arthur Taylor has won a second appeal against the prison smoking ban – but Corrections says jails will remain smokefree.

Let’s be honest on why we banned prisoners from smoking shall we? It wasn’t their bloody well being (we have stripped Prisoners of their rights to vote, have passed draconian 3 strikes legislation to thrill the sensible sentencing trust lynch mob and have brought in private prisons – prisoner well being isn’t something we do much in NZ), we banned smoking because the Government was sent a report showing that National’s plan to double bunk could cost the State a small fortune in compensation payments from Prisoners who suffered any illness traceable to second hand smoke.

The Government banned smoking so they could get their double bunk program through because if they hadn’t banned it, they would be open for mass second hand smoking compensation claims. Every. Single. Word. Out of the Governments mouth defending smoke free is a lie and a false concern for prisoners. The real game here was pushing through double bunking.

It was the over crowded double bunking that caused the recent prison riot at Springhill. If we want to demand prisoners go smoke free, we should at least be honest with the reasons why we are doing it and then be prepared to pay the consequences when the riots break out.

  1. That’s a plausible argument. The Government is especially not adept at telling the truth. Going by the record of their indifference to a large part of society, especially the most vulnerable, anything proclaimed as for some positive social purpose certainly must be masking a devious agenda.

Anyway what is to be expected with our reality build upon lies and an intensification of lies to save the entire rancid system of lies, the truth is the enemy, thus the push to increase spying and ease to incarcerate and debilitate inconvenient lives.

  2. What you say about the lies is true. The part about the gvt being sued for secondhand smoke claims not so true. Yes, they might get sued. No, they’re HIGHLY unlikely to ever have to pay any compensation. Just take a look at the details of the McTear case in Scotland:

    http://boltonsmokersclub.wordpress.com/the-mctear-case-the-analysis/

and realize that even in the case of exposures A THOUSAND TIMES GREATER than you’d find in the prisons, the courts STILL couldn’t prove harmful effects based on existing scientific evidence.

Read a bit more about secondhand smoke lies in general by reading my well-referenced “Lies Behind The Smoking Bans” — just Google “V.Gen5H” and see what you think. Specific, substantive criticisms always welcome.

    • CountryBoy…. you wrote, “The reptiles want us to stop smoking because it taints our flesh”

You might think you’re kidding — but you’re NOT! Read: “Aliens Don’t Like to Eat People That Smoke!” at:

      http://www.sott.net/signs/anti-anti-smoking.htm

Look at some of your prominent Antismokers: do they REALLY look like they evolved under the rays from a G2 or G3 star? The greenish pallor of their outer membrane gives them away! Note how fond they are of jetting around to conferences, leaving dreaded chemtrails in their wakes, or how they avoid mirrors, or confuse the meanings of simple English words (e.g. “Dr.”, “risk”, “danger”, etc), or how they took over the dark and dank insides of pubs while leaving smokers to sit outside under blastingly carcinogenic solar radiation. Finally, listen to them when they speak… the strange croaking and gargling noises they make whenever they see wisps of smoke… their strangled mutterings about “filthy smokers” and “deadly toxins.”

Clearly they’re either aliens or simply deeply deranged. And I wouldn’t want to imply they’re deranged, eh?

  3. Well OF COURSE they didn’t do it out of concern for health per se.
And OF COURSE “prisoners ” are regarded as Commodities.
