“The decision of Auckland Council to provide security of funding for the regions Citizen’s Advice Bureau for the next 3 years is most welcome and will ensure they can continue providing the vital service relied on by many in the community” says Labour’s Consumer Rights and Standards Spokesperson Carol Beaumont

“CABs provide information and support to citizens in person, by phone and online.  This information enables people to both know their rights and how to enforce those rights. As we all know knowledge is power and for many people CABs are a trusted and reliable source of knowledge”

“One of the main areas of the CABs work is around consumer issues and in tough economic times making sure that people are making good decisions and getting what they pay for is very important.  Likewise the ability to refer people to organisations like Budget Services and Community Law Centres to deal with issues like consumer debt and rip offs is also important.”

“I congratulate Auckland Council on this decision.  It is clear that many vital social services, including budget services would welcome this sort of financial certainty from the Government agencies that fund them.”
