If Key is helping Palino, Len Brown vulnerable to the left

If Palino has been given Key’s blessings, it is because no other right wing candidate will stand against Len…

Helpful Key on side – Palino
Super City mayoral candidate John Palino says he has the backing of Prime Minister John Key. He has been photographed with Key at least three times this month, including twice this week. The centre-right candidate told the Herald on Sunday he believed the Nats had made “subconsciously, a tick for John Palino”.

…and if no other right wing candidate is running, then the election won’t be a lesser of two evils meaning Len will be vulnerable to a strong challenge from the left.

Interesting times ahead for the Auckland Mayoralty.

  1. Minto for Mayor! Down with Brown. Pity a couple more righties were not standing to split the vote further as the old grey hair righties always vote. Mana appeals to young people but have not conclusively shown they can turn them out. Watch Te Hamua next weekend for an indication.

The turnout is always appalling in local government elections despite being postal ballots, maybe too many people have never posted a letter in these online days. So it would not matter to me if John Minto won by a 100 votes in a slice ’n dice contest.

The matter then shifts to the calibre of the councillors. Brown’s was pretty much 50/50 right/left but he was captured by the right not having a class compass and look at the woeful results.
