I’m sorry what?

Norman reversal won’t win finance job: Shearer
The back-down by Green Party co-leader Russel Norman on money-printing may make him more compatible with Labour’s positions on monetary policy but he will not be finance minister in a Labour-led government, Labour leader David Shearer made clear yesterday.

David Shearer ruling Russel Norman out as Finance Minister? It seems that David is counting his Cabinet Ministers before they’ve hatched. I think the question will be would Russel Norman let David Shearer be the Prime Minister, not what Shearer will offer Norman.

With Winston increasingly maneuvering to the right so that he’s John Key’s only coalition option next year, Shearer has little choice but to play ball with the Greens and ruling things out like this 18 months before an election is a strategic blunder that wiil end up biting Shearer on the bum come November next year.

Labour have no option but to accept a Green Cabinet with Russel Norman as Finance Minister. Seeing as Labour have done more than any other Political Party to blunt and dent Green Party political aspirations, Labour have to be prepared to be flexible as penance, especially as there is every possibility Greens will surge to 15% as Shearer continues to underwhelm.

The Greens can’t accept a weak deal as their own supporter base will be demanding real change. If the Greens wanted to play hardball they could start to look at big electorate campaigns in seats symbolic to Labour as pay back.

What if rising star Marama Davidson stood in Central Auckland rather than Denise Roche? Marama’s candidacy in Central would forever keep the seat in Nikki Kaye’s hands while generating massive party votes.

If Labour want to play hardball, the Greens can reciprocate.

  1. Well I wonder whether Shearer is living in his own space and deluded to the extreme. Is he so sure he will even be in the position to have a say on who will be what kind of minister in late 2014?

With the Ikaroa Rawhiti byelection there may be a surprise result coming, and with Shearer and his campaign efforts there not paying off, the last ones in caucus may realise, this is not going to get us anywhere.

Who knows, it seems unlikely, but maybe there will finally be a rolling of Shearer, in desperation, to at least have a remaining chance to get the votes in 2014?

It may after all yet be another person leading Labour.

And should Shearer stay and “lead” in his known manner, it may just be a frivolous waste of time to even speculate on a win and who will have which position.

So Shearer can say what he wants, I think it is not even worth listening to it, until the election date is there, and until the votes are cast.

The Greens should and will follow their own agenda anyway, and 15 per cent are definitely possible.

  2. Every time Shearer opens his mouth, its becoming more difficult to see how a Labour government next term is in the best interests of NZ long term.
I know John Key’s fan base love to hear talk of ‘ruling out this and that’, but I find it insulting. Its insulting because Shearer is effectively saying ‘regardless of how people on the Left vote, if we are the majority in the coalition, then your desires become irrelevant’.
Shearer has become a reason not to vote, even if you vote Green or Mana.
I’m sick of this dick-face. Can someone give him a bucket of mango-skins and send him back to wherever he came from.
