Headline: Ryall all suit no substance
Tony Ryall re-announced budget funding as ‘more good news’ today, yet once again it was nothing but a con, says Labour’s Health spokesperson Annette King.
“Mr Ryall is becoming quite adept at dribbling ‘news’ from both sides of his mouth, much of it contradictory.
“For instance in one breath he says ‘diabetes is one of our fastest growing long-term conditions, and cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death’.
“But examine the ‘extra’ funding in the Budget that he crowed about again today and you discover that rather than going up to meet the demands of ‘our fastest growing long-term condition’, funding is decreasing every year from 2014.
“It’s all about optics for Mr Ryall, not long-term commitment to improving the health of New Zealanders.
“Obesity, the biggest cause of diabetes in this country, is not part of the Government’s agenda at all.
“Mr Ryall’s ‘serious’ talk about tackling the problem is nothing more than clap-trap.”
