Hekia’s real disaster capitalism agenda in Christchurch

  1. If Charter schools re-open on the sites of closed State schools, the public will begin to finally understand the dodgyness of this. The veil, will be ripped away, and it’ll be another nail in this government’s coffin…

  2. Charter Schools were sprung on the electorate by Act after the election. How is that for an attack on democracy, failing to give the people an opportunity to assess the ramifications of such a policy before they voted ? These schools are the brainchild of the transnational corporations and their attempt to privatise the public sector for profit. They have to start somewhere and using the softly-softly approach a public private partnership hopefully won’t scare the horses. Google AlterNet.com/Charter Schools and this Progressive site has copious material on why these schools are a disaster for quality education. As soon as Parata announced the closure of the CHCH schools it was obvious they weren’t going to waste these buildings by pulling them down but an answer to how do we provide the schools for the Charter brigade. Roger Douglas and his Unfinished Business is coming into full play starting with education. We pay, they provide inferior education with unqualified (cheap) labour.

    • Well said, McClairy, well said.

Isn’t it ironic that a Party like ACT that is obsessed with the Free Market and Minimal Government is supporting a state subsidy for private enterprise.

Spending taxpayers’ money on private business is evidently not a “subsidy”.

What next? Will ACT put through legislation giving farmers back their SMPs?
