Unite News: Is This Why Police Are Staunch Against McDs Workers?

McDonalds and PoliceMcDonald’s workers, angry that police are given 50% discounts at their store whilst staff are refused free meals on shift, will go on strike today in Auckland. This follows two pickets earlier in May, where workers and supporters of the Unite union were pushed and manhandled by the Force.

“Workers are concerned that our strike picket lines have been unduly targeted. You have to wonder about a franchisee who gives the cops a 50% discount, but won’t give his own workers a free meal on shift, like most other fast food operators do,” said Union organiser Joe Carolan.

The striking workers will join supporting students from AUSA, who are holding a Fish-in at Auckland Central Police station at 2.30pm. McDonald’s burgers, suspended on fishing rods, will be lowered to the doors of the Station, in an attempt to lure officers out. The comedic protest will also raise the serious issue about officers contravening the official Police Code of Conduct, which prohibits officers receiving discounts, favours or gifts of any sort, because they are police officers.

The location of the strike at 1pm can be found by texting Joe at 029 4455702.

  1. In North America it’s donuts. A Canadian friend of mine got pulled over and the cop asked “Do you know why I stopped you?”
My friend replied “Because I’m fat and you thought I might have donuts?”

The Police get paid more than enough already and this sort of rubbish should stop. I remember being on a TPA action years ago where a row of houses were being emptied out. The developer had just given the Police Association a free office in one of his buildings. It looks like we get the law enforcement that they pay for.
