Grant Robertson is all over Key’s GCSB brain fade revelations – and the 6 reasons David Shearer isn’t fronting it are…

…Key is vulnerable to his ridiculously convenient brain fades and the leader of the Labour Party should be making deep inroads into this latest GCSB fiasco, but because of Shearer’s own home goal with his UN bank account, he is no where to be seen on this issue.

Grant Robertson is sucking up all the media oxygen, and he’s doing a great job of front footing it.

Watching the manner in which Key crucified Shearer in the house by reminding everyone of the his own UN bank account brain fade blunted Labour repeatedly in question time so Shearer has been taken off the attack, the problem is that it makes Shearer look flaccid and calls into question why he’s the leader when Grant is performing so well.

The Labour Party color coded coup watch is presently at blue, but give it another week of wall to wall Grant coverage and that must start ticking up to yellow.

If the next range of polls continue to show no dent in National’s stratospheric ratings, Grant could be checking what David Cunliffe’s phone number is.

  2. The PM is calling a portion of the MSM knuckleheads; fantastic. Someone is finally doing their job properly, and hopefully they continue to do so. Why then hasn’t his performance so far been reflected in the polls? It’s a conundrum, but perhaps explained by his faithful supporters listening and viewing habits. For example:

    http://www.farmingshow.com/player/ondemand/503271419-john-key–remembering-gcsb-and-tiwai-point

Something I noticed when listening to this was the mention of Rob Fyfe. Contrary to the PM’s assertion of being older than RF they were born in the same year, and Rob Fyfe is actually a few months older. I wonder why he’s trying to distance himself from him, or is it another off the cuff memory lapse?

  3. ” …he appears to be confused about who first suggested Fletcher for the job.

Asked why he didn’t tell the full story last week, Key said: “I’d forgotten that at that particular time.”

In Porirua this afternoon, Key was grilled about the sequence of events that saw Fletcher appointed as director of the GCSB in September 2011.

At first Key said: “Iain Rennie, state services commissioner recommended him to me… I rang [Fletcher] and said ‘look, you know, you might be interested.”

Asked again who first brought up Fletcher’s name, Key replied: “Iain Rennie put it to me.”

Later on, he was asked again who first mentioned Fletcher. “I would have mentioned it to him, I’m sure.”

When pressed to clarify if he first suggested the name to Rennie, he said: “I’m sure I probably would have.”

  4. I’d like to see Shearer ask the questions, maybe picking a few extra salient points from Manbat’s list (above.) When Mr Key gets puerile and pathetic as his only response because he can’t face the truth, Shearer should yell out, “Shut the f_ _ _ up, and answer the questions.”

When the Speaker kicks him out for bringing the House into disrepute he should call as he goes, “Having a speaker with the wit and wisdom of a intellectually disabled axolotl brings this house into disrepute.”

That would be exciting. That would bring him some kudos. And the last part would be true.

  5. Yep, Shearer shouldn’t be reeling against the ropes with Key’s ad hom come back, rather, Shearer should take one on the chin and come back with the orchestrated litany of John Key’s lies.

(Many thanks to Manbat for sharing the list of John Key’s lies. I was challenged on a couple of them and, as a result, have made a couple of changes and added DOX to the lot.)
