Could Corbyn dream the impossible dream?

Despite being repeatedly mauled, attacked and belittled by his own Party and The Guardian, there have been some tantalising hints that the election isn’t going all the way for Teresa May, could Corbyn pull off the impossible and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?

After launching an incredible Manifesto for the people that is actually strong Left, Corbyn’s chances just got a lot better…

Labour cuts gap with Conservatives to single figures for the first time in mainstream poll

Labour have continued to cut the Tories’ lead in the polls after the publication of the party manifestos, as party leader Jeremy Corbyn claimed his message was “getting through” to voters.

Survation research gave Theresa May’s party a lead of nine percentage points with the Conservatives dropping 5 per cent to 43 per cent in a week while Labour enjoyed a 5 per cent boost to 34 per cent.

There was a similar story in four new polls published in the Sunday papers, which put Labour between 35 per cent and 33 per cent, up from the 26 points the party was showing at the start of the campaign.

The YouGov poll for The Sunday Times put Labour on 35 per cent, with the Conservatives nine points ahead on 44 per cent.

…Corbyn’s policies are finally connecting and the electorate are finally listening and the momentum is building…

General election 2017: Quarter of a million under-25s register to vote in one day

A last minute surge in people registering to vote has seen a quarter of a million young people under 25 years old sign up on the last possible day before the general election.

Cabinet Office figures show that a total of 622,000 people registered to vote on 22 May, of which 246,000 were under 25.

Young people were dominant among those registering, with 207,000 aged 25 to 34 – compared to just 10,000 people over the age of 65.

…Corbyn is meeting and speaking in front of groups in the thousands…

Jeremy Corbyn got on stage at a Libertines gig and nobody could quite believe it

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn took his campaign trail to the next level on Saturday after gatecrashing a Libertines gig.

The crowds at Prenton Park in Tranmere – who had turned out to see the band – were treated to a rousing speech from Corbyn as he made the unexpected appearance – appealing to their love of football.

Jeremy Corbyn just held a general election rally and thousands of people turned up

Thousands of people have turned up to a general election rally tonight by Jeremy Corbyn

Huge crowds stopped traffic and packed a park outside the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, in scenes reminiscent of the left-winger’s leadership campaigns.

…how the recent terror attack in Manchester impacts this momentum is yet to be calculated, but Corbyn’s last minute spike in support can’t rule him out.

The favourites are the Tories because First Past the Post helps them, but if Corbyn can continue his momentum  and get close he’ll have a mandate to remain as the leader of Labour – much to the horror of The Guardian and a large chunk of his own MPs.

  1. Even the Guardian is now allowing a few positive pieces about Corbyn.
When he’s campaigning he’s in his element.
And the warm reception his policies have had are now undeniable.
This would be a great upset, but possibly not good for Corbyn’s health and longevity if he became PM.
The pressure to resume business as usual would be relentless

  2. Fingers crossed he pips the tories at the post
    – It would be nice to see a different offering both in the UK and NZ…

    • Yes Kim Dandy,

We also hope that a Labour/NZ first combo take over here to as seen in the last poll (that I notice was not widely covered in the mainstream press yet.

      Interesting times here.

  3. look, Corbyn has to deal with the Manchester attack straight up, and remind that Tony Blair was warned by the various snoops that his policy of engagement of US and Dubya Bush policy would result in domestic terror attacks

But that he, and his new Labour Govt (with support from SNP) will do things differently

    • Yes please! I would so like it if Corbyn does that. Can you try and get a job as a campaign advisor please?

  4. The purpose of a terrorist attack is to infect the consciousness of the target people with fear. Murdering the defenseless during a celebration does so more effectively than murdering soldiers in battle or cops on duty. People expect those taking real risks to be wounded or killed sometimes, they do not expect concert-goers to be mass-murdered and it shakes them. Murdering the defenseless also demonstrates a willingness to transgress morally that killing the armed and ready does not. It demonstrates the capability of the actors, in this case likely Islamists, to deny a population feelings of safety doing normal things until compliance is achieved.

I imagine the trash that planned this attack respect themselves immensely for their success at murdering “kufr” in a western nation. They do not hold themselves to the same standards we do.

    • The same standards as we do? Western standards I assume you’re talking about. And what standards are those? Like dropping explosives on Syrian children? Like watching (and supporting) US invade and destabilise the Middle East for decades, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. Like turning a blind eye to the violence coming from our own side, as we get own with our own busy little civilian lives.

      Standards eh.

      • I am quite fimilar with your concerns the validity of which you can check any number of my comments left on TDB. Something about me you should know is in extremely stressfull situations like now I tend to talk in race and gender naturality for many reasons. One reason is if you fuck around with kids, well its like a free hit. Its like back when I was a kid in J2/yr2, bullrush was one of the few times we could go full power and really test our opposition. This I believe is one of those times. No one has pulled the trigger on this I suspect because Lybia where the attacker originated has no high value targets left so airpower is a bit over kill after the last ten years or so. Boots on the ground by christmas? It all seems so familiar. Am I crazy for expecting different resaults? Hope not.

First of all By my standards those that target woman and children are threats you shoot until they stop being a threat, police/Fire/NZDF drill for this all the time and if they miss there small window of oppertunity to put a bad man down then there are the courts.

If it is proven in a court of law that nation states are knowingly harbouring terrorists in conection with domestic terrorism and refuse to hand the suspects over then the natural course is your stock standrad regime change then meet the requirments and file the application and then make the terrorist freindly nation clean up after.

I do not recall a nation state being immune from such accusations, even Vatican City is not immune the details you can look up online or read in the bible.

Honestly Andy. When did terrorism become so blahzay for you? Its not open season as you suggest, not even close. You cant go rpund killing people mate. It makes me not want to share this planet with em.

Theyre just kids mate. Not even teens. My kids are asking the same questions trump/emails/ISIS, is trump going to set of a nuke, where is isis, are they far. Bloody all day, why why why, just like you. And I tell them the truth. Stupid people allow this.

Stupid people who dont vote allow these cluster fucks to comit suicide bankster/jihadi and stupid people who do vote can also allow these things to happen.

After hundreds of years of middle east policy set by western nations we have hit peak false prices.

    • The same standards as we do? Western standards I assume you’re talking about. And what standards are those? Like dropping explosives on Syrian children? Like watching (and supporting) US invade and destabilise the Middle East for decades, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. 5. Well yesterday morning, after watching Theresa May’s car crash interview with Andrew Neil, and the slight let up from the Guardians usual negative spin, I was starting to dare to dream…then Manchester, probably end of that dream, may turning up the fear to full…a little reminiscent of the Falklands war and Thatcher circa 1983.

At lest we still have the great take down….

  6. The best outcome for Corbyn would be to reduce the tory’s majority but not win this election. The brexit negotiations are going to be humiliating for whoever is conducting them from UK’s side because the EU will not enter any genuine negotiations at all . It will be a hard brexit however long it takes to settle ,and whoever is in government will get the blame, and be chucked out at the next election.
I hear the Manchester perp, though brought up there of refugee Libyan parents, had just returned from Libya a few days ago, Looks like Trump’s “muslim ban” might need to be considered in UK.
A lot of people in some muslim countries have been bombed incessantly by US and UK bombers , thousands of tons of bombs per year for decades, millions of innocent children killed and maimed. It isn’t surprising if there’s resentment , and an occasional suicidal retaliation .

  7. Notice how the media here are not covering the U.K election at all.
Very odd considering a large part of the population here have strong connections to that part of the world.
    There silence tells you something….
From the footage that I have seen so far Teresa May is no match for Corbyn and she knows it ; hence the refusal to go on National T.V and debate the issues…..what a gutless wonder and the feedback that I’ve been getting from over there is that if she doesn’t want to show the people some respect by fronting up, then she’s not worthy enough to run the country.
I mean she’s just a walking talking disaster and the dress up chickens that follow her where ever she goes are a constant reminder to every one .
I hope Corbyn does some long format T.V interviews to replace the debates, because he is extremely engaging to listen to .
Our media is silent because the messaging and policies of Corbyn is resonating and the Tories, like National here, have no answers .
They are ideologically straitjacketed by failing 1980s neoliberal agendas and the only way for these dinosaurs is down.
The party’s definitely not over till the fat lady sings.

  8. The timing of the Manchester bombing exactly at the time when things were beginning to shift Mr Corbyn’s way has done the bloke like a kipper. He cannot do much more than burble the usual platitudes in the tiny spaces he is granted in the MSM, meanwhile terri the town bike gets to act all prime ministerial and beat the whole thing up raising the threat level the highest it’s been since the innocent Brazilian electrician was murdered by brit police, and fill the streets with armed troops – each sighting of whom reinforces the false notion that she is in control.
The ‘period of mourning’ won’t be more than a coupla days but we already know the media harps on about this stuff for weeks afterwards – the less actual facts the more tear jerking snaps.

Woe betide Mr Corbyn should he make a rational statement such as “Is it merely coincidence that this child of Libya detonated his bomb two days after the news that the soldiers of the UK supported, unelected Libyan Government of National Accord butchered cooks, cleaners anyone they could find – the unarmed the better at Brak al-Shatti ?
140 innocents died that day – last Friday, the killers had been armed by the UK back in 2015.
You can read more about it here if u want http://www.moonofalabama.org/2017/05/libya-massacre-at-brak-al-shatti-may-trigger-larger-civil-war.html

Corbyn will know this yet can say nothing because if he did the media would begin with blaming him for ‘using’ the Manchester deaths and end with the claim he backs terrorist.
Remember since Mr Corbyn spoke out against detention without trial, murder and torture of people in Borthern Ireland the english media have branded him as an IRA member – it doesn’t matter how many times he argued that he was protesting the treatment of the loyalists too.

It is highly likely that the bombing was the actions of a screwed up kid just as every other ‘act of terror’ in europe over the last decade, Mr Corbyn cannot say that. As much as May wants an encore she prolly won’t get one, but young muslim englanders are being rounded up as I write this so maybe the security state will succeed in provoking something.
The englander media rabbits on about the awfulness of blowing up children which would be fair enough except when those two english jihadist revolutionaries killed a soldier fresh back from a tour of the ME – the media went hysterical at the thought that maybe the pair would succeed in arguing they were prisoners of war. “no mate we say that – if you capture one of our boys in Iraq or Afghanistan, but you cannot argue that back cos we don’t recognise the legitimacy of the Taliban or ISIS even if our mates in the US arm ISIS and Israel patches them up in military hospitals before sending them back to blow up Syria’s water supply”.

Thinking about this too hard just gets you wondering at the self restraint most of the people of the ME have displayed thus far.
But Mr Corbyn has to play along as much as he may loathe doing so.

    • When Trump visits London he will have to hang his head in shame because these attacks where precipitated by his actions in the Middle East since becoming prez.

  9. I feel the same re:Manchester – tragedy tends to send people to vote conservatively but – as the ground swell is with the millenials – maybe this might be different as they get their information from non establishment sources. Even so Corbin’s waking-up of the sleepy hobbits in the UK – as is happening through Bernie Sanders as much as Trump in the US – can’t be bad, even if it’s on the Opposition benches. Something to think about here…?

  10. Hope he wins! If anyone can make the best out of Brexit and negotiate it as best as possible it’s Corbyn.

If May gets in, curtains for Britain -her stupidity and outdated ideology will lead them into a third world Britain – corruption, cronyism, extremism and extreme inequality.

  11. two interesting facts..

one is that after the release of the ‘radical’/left mainfesto – one of the rightwing tabloids (one of the ones with a ‘daily’ in the front of it..)..ran a poll of their readers (expecting universal condemnation of this lefty-nonsense)

their readers polled 80% in favour of corbyns’ manifesto..

and the last poll i saw had corbyn one percentage point behind what blair won with..

    and corbyn has the momentum..
