As we stare down the barrel of facing an election with no critical TV current affairs journalism, let’s remind ourselves that MediaWorks mutilated 7pm from this…

…into this…

…meanwhile TVNZ have this as their watchdog for democracy at 7pm…

…no wonder NZers are so utterly blind to what is happening in their country.

  2. It wont be long now,… unfortunately we are currently enduring an era of corruption of democratic principle , that was kicked off by John Key and continued on with the succession of Bill English.

    The interesting thing is, … the MASSIVE amount of reclamation that will be needed once Labour and its allies win this September election . It will indeed be bewildering in its magnitude.

    It will be then and then only that we as a nation will see just how horrendously manipulated we have been. And that will only serve to blow this whole era apart for the charade it is.

    Expect far right wingers like Hosking to start to disappear, and several other long time mouthpieces, – expect also a new era of academics and advocates for the victims of this neo liberal hatefest to start finding their voices again and start speaking out about the actual conditions far , far too many people in our our society are truly in.

    The balance of democracy will start to be restored and that will only serve to highlight the real levels of poverty and dangerous threats to our democracy that was allowed to develop under this current National govt. Sadly , this will not compensate the hundreds of thousands of victims that this pernicious ideology has affected over the last 8 years.

    But at least we will no longer be influenced by this out of control govt that has pandered only to the interests of a small percentage of wealthy New Zealanders and overseas corporate’s at the expense of so many.

    • You’re a lot more optimistic than I am. Pretty sure National will handily win the forthcoming election, with 40-45% of the vote. Add in the Maori Party or (somewhat less likely) that turn-coat Winston Peters and there you have your next Government. Hope I’m wrong, but unless the property bubble starts to unravel this is what’s going to happen imo.

        There are just too many things he has said against National to go back on. As for working with the Greens?… of course he will !

        James Shaw wasn’t put there for no good reason.

        The diplomacy will be on Little’s shoulders. Hes more than capable.

        Expect a govt of consensus.

        A healthy govt.

        Something we haven’t seen for a long , long time.

  4. Back when we were ” sort of a democracy ” and had a ” in the public interest ” news media a story like the current Burnham controversy would have been played out and covered every night on the television news and current affairs at 7.

    The story would have appeared on the front pages of all the daily newspapers ramping up the pressure on the government and keeping the story alive.

    Back in the good old days.

  7. When the governance of a country becomes as corrupt and rotten as that of NZ and the mainstream media continue to promote and celebrate lies and utter bollocks (as it must, since it is commercially driven) it is only a matter of time before the entire system falls over.

    I think we are still looking at 2020 for the big crash, though clearly there is going to be a fairly major ‘upset’ before this year is over.

    Disengage. Buy secondhand goods whenever possible; grow as much of your own food as possible; don’t waste time on the drivel churned out by the MSM; don’t look to politicians to deal with the shocking mess politicians have created.
