A pre-cabinet meeting plea will be made at Parliament on tomorrow morning 27 March requesting that the Government hold an open and independent inquiring into the NZ SAS attacks on two Afghan villages in 2010.

The recently released book ‘Hit and Run’ provides new and detailed information about how two SAS planned and commanded attacks resulted in the wounding and deaths of twenty one civilians.

The NZDF have issued a statement saying only insurgents were killed.

A spokesperson Adrian Leason said “the honourable thing to do now, in particular for the Afghan survivors, is to hold a full and independent inquiry and to comply with the recommendations that follow. The NZDF needs be supported to adhere to the high standards of honour to which they aspire.”

Although a numbers of years have passed it is never too late for a merciful and principled response by the Crown in the wake of this tragedy. If ever there was a time when moral leadership was needed, it is right now.

Along with placards and photographs of Afghan victims of the attack, banners at the vigil will read;

The Vigil will begin at Parliament grounds at 7.30am.
