Public Broadcasting has taken another blow this year. Radio NZ have been forced to sell their Auckland Studio and TVNZ have announced huge news room cutbacks.
The National Party have been intent on killing off public broadcasting because the fewer media sources that are trying to hold the Government to account, the better for them.
At a time when we desperately need to be re-investing in our public broadcasting infrastructure, especially in an election year, and here we are killing it off.
National voters seems to think The Batchelor is public broadcasting because TV3 broadcast it to the public.
Meanwhile, this is what TVNZ put up as their answer to holding the Government to account…
RNZ must be saved!…and strengthened…it is the last bastion in the New Zealand mainstream media upholding critical thinking, information to keep power cabals honest and safe guard democracy

One of the many clues was went TVNZ were forced to sell public land to Sky City. I mean WTF? I bet this isn’t included as an asset sale.
Then the persecution of John Campbell and his team…. one of the nicest people on TV. Couldn’t get his propaganda lines straight in this post truth world for Weldon the Natz poodle in charge.
Now surprise surprise, RNZ are so poorly funded they are selling their own studio.
Journo’s see the writing on the wall and actually get out of shock doctrine reporting and start to actually report real news… real lies…. real issues.
Get the Natz out of power while you still have a job and a news room to go to.

When popular revolt finally drives this pack of bastards who have the temerity to consider themselves New Zealanders out of office in hopefully 2020 in a huge landslide ( a green mp was telling me the “arrogance of these people in parliament has to be seen to be believed) there wont be a credible news service left in our country.
I will be paying attention to Green party policy on broadcasting because i know they will produce good law and i hope convince the Labour party that a progressive government must strengthen our broadcasting laws for the safety of what democracy will be left.
We cant afford to ever allow this sustained right wing dominance of our public service news outlets ever again after the outrageous behaviour this government and its leaders have been allowed to get away with and threaten our countries democracy.
In effect the public must be saved from itself and is entitled to have these types of politicians be held to account and the all important truth being the only consideration.
And it has to endure the power and wrath of the ruling wealthy corporate class and establishment.
This was coming, I heard, as they are earning less advertising revenue. The dollar bill rules, profit rules, the ones who hold the wealth hold the power and can influence.
So more power to Google, Facebook, Twitter and co.
It isn’t actually killing off public broadcasting, it’s about turning it all into one big informercial. Devoid of fact, full of unsubstantiated claims and dealing with tripe instead of substance.
This is what the political right have been working their way towards for around 30 years.
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to stop them and the results show.
Just a continuation of the on going trend to dumb down the population that I’ve seen happening my entire life. Uninformed people (and debt laden) are much easier to placate and shepherd than those that are properly educated (and independent). Add to that the false choices (i.e. that ensures that no tangible changes are ever made) in our illusory “democracy”, and you have near total control over the “flock”.
