Statement issued on behalf of Willie Jackson – Labour Party

Statement issued on behalf of Willie Jackson.

Following my announcement today that I intend to re-enter politics, there have been questions about some of my previous public comments, particularly at the time of the Roast Busters case.

I want to be very clear that I apologise unreservedly for my comments at the time.

They were insensitive and I deeply regret any hurt caused to victims of sexual abuse.

I’ve had a lot of time to reflect over the last few years, and I’ve learned a lot from the experience. I believe men have a responsibility to not only stand up to sexual violence, but to stand up also to the culture that allows it.

I’m proud of the work my trust does to fight sexual and domestic violence, and I am committed to continuing this work both in my personal life and in politics.

  1. Why is this “on behalf of” and not simply Willie”s direct statement? can’t he write or speak any more? Who did write it on his behalf?

    • It is a statement written and issued by Willie Jackson.

The headline was clearly added by a Daily Post author – probably Bradley himself.

    • The use of the word “I” throughout the statement shows it is Willie’s direct statement.
“On behalf of” refers to the statement being released through Labour.

      …that’s how I read it.

  2. Pity Jackson didn’t accept Poto Williams’ offer of support and assistance to get his s**t together rather than resorting to another bland apology in the guise of a statement issued on his behalf.

    • I reckon Poto Williams would be far better to keep her nose out of this and show us she has ability to be more than a housekeeper of what is a very safe Labour seat.

So far she has not impressed at all.

  3. It’s an apology st__id, what more do we want? The guys IS and has been a decent chap! Get off his back! He has apologised! Move along! Get a life!

    • I agree. FFS this is a storm in a tea cup, although I see the Standard is sadly giving true meaning to the term “Politically Correct”. Especially “Weka” piling in the majority of comments as per normal are foaming at the mouth. They are fully rabid at the outrage against all things feminist. Jackson must be burned at the stake, minimum.

But then again its hard not to go a day when there is not some feminist outrage that has yet to be addressed. If Poto Williams can’t deal with this and his subsequent apologies then she should go and get a real job!

The lefts never ending search for their particular specialty nirvana in politics will always ensure National are in government or thereabouts!

    • When captured by the magnificence of the Labour paati it can only come out in ugly ways and that’s generalised through out all political parties

  4. This is indicative of the desperation of the Labour Party. Pulling out all the stops to rebuild their flagging popularity.

All that is, except making a complete break with neo-liberalism and BAU.

Cosmetic changes in the Labour line up might help.

Bur if Labour really want to lead the next government, then instead of an empty MOU that makes no concessions at all to the Green Party, Labour need to take up some of the Green Party’s more Left policies as their own.

An empty MOU in which the only agreed policy between the two main opposition parties is a joint determination to change the government, is not enough.

Changing a few faces in the Labour caucus might help.

But what is really needed is some progressive policy to match.

    Will Willie Jackson bring that?

    We live and hope.

  5. I doubted even labour could screw this election up
I stand corrected and will never again doubt their ability
