Todd McClay misled the media, the public AND John Key – so how come he still has a job?

Why hasn’t McClay been sacked yet as Trade Minister?

His misleading of the media, public and apparently John Key, means he should go.

Yet he hasn’t.

Why?

For China, losing face is a big deal, chopping off McClay would help appease them, so why hasn’t Key given him the chop?

I think it’s because of this…

Prime Minister John Key said his office was told of Chinese threats to New Zealand exports, but he had not been informed because it was not “official advice”.

For Key to not have been informed of this seems ludicrous right? We have to believe that NZs largest trade partner is angry and threatening large NZ businesses and the PMs Office is informed, but they don’t tell Key?

Yeah Right.

McClay isn’t going anywhere because McClay could reveal that Key was well aware of everything he was aware of so there’s no killing off of McClay for fear of him pulling Key down with him.

We’ve seen this game played a million times by Key and NZers seem to love him more for it. Remember how Key met the GCSB 15 times and they apparently never mentioned Kim Dotcom to him once?

Remember how a dirty trick campaign was being run out of Key’s own Office but he apparently had no idea.

Remember how the SIS and his Office met to smear Phil Goff in the lead up to the 2011 election and no one told Key?

They amount of things Key doesn’t remember or isn’t told makes him looks less like a Prime Minister  and more like an alzheimer’s patient.

  1. To turn it around: Can anyone name a National minister of the present government that HASN’T lied to or misled New Zealanders?

  2. Truth, honesty and transparency do not matter under John Key and his government, they are rather seen as a hindrance. With Crosby Textor training, with a compromised MSM, where the mercenary like journos rush around trying to compete who got a new press release first, and with a population that has switched off politics, the government can do whatever it likes.

Todd McClay is one of few with some qualifications and expertise that Key needs, he has not got many left who could run the Trade Ministry, so he sticks with him.

It was in Key’s eyes not a “sin” what McClay did, it was totally okay, only due to the truth finally dripping out, and some MSM picking up on it (I think only RNZ pushed this), was it necessary to make some kind of “apology” to Key. It was just a formal gesture for the public, those that bother following developments. It was a mere faces saving gesture.

I bet there is much more going on behind the scenes than most would dare think of, but we will never learn about it, unless someone may decide to become a whistle-blower. In a world where employment is less secure than it has been for many years, few will dare blow the whistle, and there are all these confidentiality clauses in employment contracts, that keep the public service shut up.

Behind the scenes Key and McClay and others will simply continue with their usual modus operandi, with BS stories, with window dressing, with obfuscation, with lies and deceit, they will congratulate each other for doing all they do, seeing nothing wrong with it.

  3. Key could have been told at a moment when he wasn’t wearing his PM hat.
If he was wearing a different hat it doesn’t count, right?

  4. Poor old Todd McClay. For his sins and for the John Key brand he has to look like a lying cheating shaved monkey. Nasty hospital pass to take for the team, again.

He got the script wrong when Keys lawyer told him John Key wanted no IRD attention to NZ’s pseudo tax haven and then John Key denied it. Oh how Toddy must have fumed over that one. Now this!

But after that there is NO way Todd would be speaking without an approved script as much as there is NO way Key would not have known about the Chinese trade embargo threats. Christ knows National do not allow any spontaneous thinking and certainly nothing that hasn’t been thoroughly focused grouped and signed off. I mean Key is simply awful when put on the spot, so there is no way McClay would be allowed freedom of speech.

I can only assume National have so much to hide at the moment and some in the Opposition, the media and beyond are doing their jobs at long last that they’ve run out of fingers to plug the fracturing dike.

  5. Todd McClay is one who has misled the media and with that the public, Nick (the Dick) Smith is another one, still busy misinforming and misleading us all.

He was on Checkpoint tonight, interviewed intensely by John Campbell, and pulled further tricks out of his tool box. So he went on about Special Housing Areas just having been introduced to offer more flexible zoning provisions, bla, bla, bla, and nothing else. He did not want to accept the SHAs brought in by Central Government a few years ago had failed and not delivered affordable housing. John Campbell asked him again and again, how many “affordable homes” had been built. But what did he get?

Smith diverted attention to his loved topic Christchurch, how the rebuild there had now led to stabilised prices, and Auckland would follow suit.

He forgot to mention, Christchurch is a totally different kettle of fish, and comparing the situation there with Auckland is like comparing apples with pears. Auckland is where most new and returning migrants come to, and look for homes, Christchurch was simply a rebuild of quake damaged homes, and did not have the high level of inbound migration as Auckland.

Campbell had earlier presented these stories, showing “affordable” homes are nowhere to be found in Auckland:

    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201809723/no-affordable-housing-in-huapai

Nick Smith’s defensive answers, spin and lies:
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201809725/nick-smith-in-the-auckland-studio

And tomorrow Nick the Man will go out on a bus with John, to show him where the so far hidden “affordable” homes are supposedly being built, or are even completed. Well, I will listen and watch, surprise us, Nick. When will that liar finally admit he has misled us, just like many other Nat Party ministers?

  6. “The amount of things Key doesn’t remember or isn’t told makes him looks less like a Prime Minister and more like an alzheimer’s patient.”

Well, to be fair, he can’t remember how he felt about The Springboks, and that was long before he entered parliament. He is, at least, consistent.

  7. That oriface of Key….

It seems like some grubby little den of high strangeness what goes on in that office . It resembles nothing like a PM’s office , – more like a propaganda den for churning out PR work to hoodwink the NZ public.

Similar to what really goes on in a corporate raiders den.

Perhaps that’s exactly what it is.

  8. Even more lies, deceit, corruption and subterfuge with this one as well. Typical of a John Key/Steven Joyce led National government!

I’ve yet to find an inkling of respectful or statesman like behaviour in any of the present odious crop of government ministers and MPs! All an absolute disgrace to NZ!

If Kiwis have any respect for their country, show Key & Co the door, by voting accordingly in 2017!

  9. It most certainly seems to be the modus operandi of the Key government MPs to not tell anyone(even each other)of what the other is up to. A perfect example of late is when Paula Bennett came up with the ‘bright spark idea’ of a $5000 incentive to get homeless Aucklanders out of Auckland within hours of Bill English releasing his 2016 Budget. And so this proves not one National MP trusts his or her colleagues. What a pathetic bunch of government employees they have turned out to be.
Meanwhile back at the ranch Key will claim no knowledge of one thing or another that his very MPs are partaking of. They may well, when things turn to custard, apologise to him but they have become too arrogant to apologise to the very people they have been telling porkies(aka lies)to for a long period of time.
I am sure many of us New Zillanders(as Key so arrogantly still calls us due to his speech impediment)are now so totally fed-up with a government who has along the line into arrogance forgotten about us(New Zealanders).
The Key government does not even consult with New Zealanders as to whether we want American warships in OUR harbours. It’s almost like Key has sold his soul to the US Devil and he will never say no to the United States. Perahsp because he loves the United States(the source of his money making)more than he hates NZ.
To date the Key government demeans itself regularly into the realms of denial and blame games. It even harps on by blaming the previous Helen Clark government for the problems it is having now. And yet John Key is courting Helen Clark in her pursuit to be secretary general of the UN. Is it because Key has aspirations to abode in the tax-free haven that is the UN and so whilst he blames the Clark government for everything under the sun he worships her? What a true hyprocrite he is then. He will never learn but will go through life blaming others for his misfortunes even when he loses his $60million.

  10. No Key does not have alzheimers disease he suffers from a compulsion too deceive and because he has never been held to account by the fourth estate he has made lying into an art form.
He is to his supporters is a reflection of themselves..
    Arrogant
    corrupt
    devious
    greedy
    selfish
    vain
    incompetent
    evil
    cruel
    controling
    inhuman
    pompous
    deceitful
    immoral
    vulgar
    repugnant
    irresponsible
    no conscience
    vile
    harmful
    damaging
    mercenary
In 2004-5 Key met with the Brethren in his electorate office too discuss the campaign against the Greens and Labour in the coming campaign while a tv crew were filming.
It was to be a cooperated attack but run in secret so the public were deceived by the participants and maximum damage inflicted (sound familiar)
The plan was exposed and after denying being involved Brash then had to admit he knew all along about the deception.
When the dust settled after the election John Key was asked if he had ever met with the Brethren and said “I have never met with any members of the Brethren that is the honest truth” I certainly cant recall doing so , i meet with different people all the time.
That was a perfect opportunity to uncover the real John Key to the public , after all he wanted to be Prime minister should he not face scrutiny as Helen Clark did for all of the time she was in office, in Keys case he has not and will not be answerable or probed on anything.
For the last eight years its as if the media has taken a leave of absence in reporting the truth and holding the government to account.
He has destroyed the integrity of the office of PM and open government
He will be near impossible to defeat next year and i still think the opposition have underestimated the leverage this man has on this country and the vast network of control and money not seen in NZ scince Muldoon.
I believe that we will not see a Labour led government in the next election and it wont be until 2020 at the earliest such is the sranglehold that Key and Joyce and others have got on this country.

  11. Todd McClay is out of his depth and cannot deceive and cajole as Tim Groser did frequently…smooth as silk and deadly dangerous.
All the ministers in this government are infected with the lies and deception from the top trouble is they end up getting into strife trying to do a JK and it just does not work but they are to arrogant to see it.
Its become a god damn awful joke but no ones laughing.
