Key bashing beneficiaries for being druggies

You know that you have a Prime Minister in trouble when instead of admitting his Government has had a role to play in seeing child poverty double simply turns around and blames beneficiaries for being druggies…

John Key: Drug abuse major contributor to child poverty
Prime Minister John Key says drug dependency is a major contributor to poverty in New Zealand, as a damning new report claims that one in three Kiwi children are living in hardship.

…that’s right folks, it’s not the draconian welfare reforms, the borrowing for tax cuts, crony capitalism, using high unemployment to hold down wages, punitive benefit cuts that compounds poverty and inequality – oh no, drugs are what is making child poverty flourish.

Key is saying this because that’s the angry views of those paid so little they look at welfare with jealousy. This is using negative stereotypes to counter facts like more children in hospital with poverty diseases, more children beneath the poverty line, more children locked into poverty.

The reality is that drug testing of beneficiaries hasn’t shown huge levels of drug use. 134 beneficiaries failed drug tests last year, that’s out of 285 000 beneficiaries, if drugs were the contributing factor Key claims, the numbers would be astronomical.

Even if we accept what Key is saying is true, how does cutting those people welfare help them get out of poverty?

This is just the politics of spite. When confronted by the stats showing the people Key leaves behind, he tells the country that it’s their fault for taking drugs, despite his own department only catching 134 people using drugs last year.

  1. Key, you arrogant bastard. My son and his partner do not use drugs. they struggle daily to provide the basics for their 3 beautiful children.
They cannot earn sufficient from their employment, which is parttime on low wages, to meet the weekly rent of $360 pw plus food ,medication, power, and other necessary expenditure. Yes, they and their children live in poverty and no they don’t do drugs. They are just normal, caring humans doing the best they can,as are so many families.
The fascist jackboot of the Key regime marches ever on.

    • I hope your son and his partner (and their kids) all have a great Christmas, despite their difficulties. I know how they feel. I received an early Christmas present from my landlord — a $40 rent increase. Given that my wages haven’t increased by $40 a week, I’m guessing he expects me to sell my kidneys to Chinese organ harvesters to cover the additional expense. Bastard.

      • Peter, why did they have three children when it’s clear they can’t afford them?

Why is it now supposed to be my problem?

  2. This also applies to Andrew Little and Labour party, I phoned his office today to remind them not only does poverty/inequality create preventable diseases it also creates violence and addiction according to scientific evidence.

The guy on the phone was a revolting ignorant bigot, refused to accept anything I was saying – even when I was quoting him facts. Then he phoned the police to come and see me, who have just left. That will be the 7th ‘welfare’ visit in 3 weeks. He told them that I was going to violently abuse children – WTF. I live on my own and my whole life is dedicated to getting abused adults and children the health care they are entitled to from ACC and NZ government – especially if and when they become parents themselves.

I’m the one they force to have psychiatric assessments, which say I’m severely traumatised and unwell – but also say I am intelligent and not delusional. When are these people going to have some thorough psych assessments – they’ve all gone completely mad.

Labour party don’t like me because I remind them they bought this radicalised neo-liberal nightmare to New Zealand that has created 80% of the social problems we now have. Its like they’ve been caught doing something very wrong and attack me for holding them to account.

    Kia kaha to us all.

    • JR Murphey, Google the Rosenhan research study. You WILL have a laugh and appreciate it. It makes the ” ivory citadel ” of the PSYCH profession look rather shaky.
      I am on YOUR side.

  3. Another day, another…….He opens his mouth and out spews pure shit. Has David Farrar told him the polling is showing an uncomfortable concern about a problem that just wont die?

Has Davids research also told him that blaming benny druggies on child poverty should do the trick with most knuckle dragging Newstalk listening Nat voters? Cos fuck they hate people don’t they?

Yet the benny drug testing regime set up by benny basher Bennett and John Key himself has shown epectacularly low numbers of positive drug test results. So low in fact that this latest fairy tale from Hans Christian Key is immediately proven wrong!

For the leader of a nation he certainly has little time for many of his fellow countrymen and women doesn’t he? Maybe because no quick buck can be made from them! And they don’t vote, certainly not for him so they are as good as dead.

When the hell are our pig shit thick media, who blindly report this aging conman, going to look beyond the wafer thin veil of bullshit and hold him to account.

  4. What can one expect from a soap reaching, hair pulling ,misogynistic pony tail pulling , SIS and GSCB using , rape and murderer accusing masturbator who habitually pisses in his shower?

    …. Fairness in Christmas Islands?

…. Fairness at WINZ for the unemployed?

…. Concern at 7 % unemployment despite the bicycle path that promised work for 200 and still isn’t finished 8 years on? Or the promise of 300,000 new jobs at the beginning of his leadership?

…. Fairness at 88 New Zealanders being spied on ILLEGALLY including Kim Dotcom?

…. Honesty about spying on China ( with whom we have a free trade agreement ) and nations of the South Pacific on behalf of another country – namely America?

…. Clarity about honest disclosure about the TTPA when Groser was caught being aided and assisted by our surveillance apparatus to secure a principal job in the World Trade Organisation?

…. Honesty about the whereabouts of Jason Ede and Ian Fletchers ILLEGAL ROLE in mass surveillance particularly Kim Dotcom?

….. Honesty about Hollywoods pressure to force the New Zealand Actors Union to bow to pressure under the Key govt?

    ………………………………………………………………………………………..

Barely tipped the iceberg , New Zealanders….

And now …this All Black fawning, feigned Royalty supporter American sycophant not only wants to buggerise around with our flag ,…he wants to blame ‘drugs’ ( remember all the photo shoots with Key sculling back beers in an attempt to identify with the macho ‘Kiwi bloke’ image and the All Blacks ) for his failed neo liberal economic fiscal lies…

Just remember the bicycle path and the promise of 300, 000 jobs… no…we don’t have to bring Aroha Ireland into it with his political stunt… we just have to look at the sell off of state houses to the lowest foreign bidder…

No ..we don’t have to remember Serco Sam and and the whole profit making motives debacle that underpins the whole neo liberal ideology… to the extent of even ‘ corrections’…we just have to recall Judith Collins and Orivida and the reasons Key relegated her to the back benches… and the things Collins has on Key…it aint over yet…

The amount of charges of negligence that can be leveled against this govt is actually hilarious in a very dark way…and yet they are charges that MUST be made.

ANYONE who seriously attempts to support this govt MUST be looked at with extreme suspicion as to what exactly the motives of those supporters really are…

It cannot be said that those motives include democracy and the support of that democracy…

Indeed…it would be more realistic to say that those motives include jockeying for position in an immoral system that despises the very concept of any democracy or sense of fair play.

  5. I refer to the embedded command of the PM’s ” key speak ” and I quote,”…. The people of New Zealand will agree with me when I say…..bullshit ” . He lost it with the rapists and paedohilesn of Christmas Island, forgot about our decorated soldier who covered his sorry arse in Afghanistan, the drug addicts in the beneficiary society, that changing the Flag is sign of New Zealand’s new identity, that the TPPA is “‘just another deal done, that we live in a rock star economy and that $ 20 an hour or less is ” Justa OK ” for a sixty year old labourer who at 65 years of age is worn out and should have had the foresight to invest in his family’s future, overlooking that of his six kids two are doctors in South Auckland, one is a Lawyer, two are mothers and one is a decorated veteran, who served in Timor and Afghanistan .

He needs to get a grip on the affliction he holds, and which currently is swallowed by so many in our country. It is called the Dunning Kruger Effect , a cognitive bias by relatively unskilled individuals who suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than it really is.

If you have watched Key, Bridges, English et al, and I have in that venerable Theatre you will see the fear in his occasional rages.
I can smell the fumes of the accidental combustion in the House over the last some months.
He knows his day is nearly over, and he will succumb to the few real statesmen or stateswoman who are out classing him today.
The political news WILL be exciting over the next eighteen months.

Mr Prime Minister stick your bottle of NZ Pure ( Ugh!!!! ) where the sun does not shine, and place your head there also.
    Pull the other one!!!!!!

  6. There may be some truth in it – the average person doesn’t blow $100 billion through normal behaviour, even with the help of Nigerian scams, maybe Bill English and the consistently non-performing Treasury failures are just completely smashed all the time.

    • Ha! That would explain a lot of their economic policy…. “oh yeah, we were gonna have a policy, but then Peter Dunne came around with some product samples, and well, yeah, we’ll get on to it later… got any more?”

  7. Might be nice for MPs to be tested as well – Wonder if Tim Groser would come up squeaky clean? Wonder how many of them would fail a drugs test?

    • of course there is the minister with the faraway eyes..

..and brownlee can be seen battling the zombiefying-effects of a cheese-overdose every questiontime..

(i reckon he’s on/up to about a kilo a day now..with late-nite fixes from the fridge the norm..he’s ripe for an intervention..)

..and of course all mp’s should be breathtested for booze before questiontime..

      ..wouldn’t want them drunk-driving the country..eh..?

(..and of course iq-tests wouldn’t go amiss..just so we know..)

  8. I think drug testing cops is a very interesting move on behalf of the jonky regime.
Drug testing beneficiaries is interesting too but for slightly differing reasons. We all know that beneficiaries are powerless individuals who’re used by politicians to satisfy the slavering neo right in their quest to justify their insatiable cruelties and perversions and perhaps ,more simply, someone to blame other than themselves for the shit everyone’s in.

Drug testing cops is interesting to this suspicious fellow because it’s a slap in the face to the police. And why would the neo right want to piss off the cops ? Perhaps the neo right are not trying to piss the cops off? Perhaps the neo right are making life difficult for cops because there’s descent rising up in the ranks of the Thin Blue Line ? I believe drug testing the cops is a thinly veiled threat.

The police aren’t stupid. The police know why they’re run off their feet and being bogged down with constant examples of a society in ruins. They know it’s neo liberal machinations that’s causing such terrible harm to us which we reflect in the way we behave towards each other. If we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world then surely? That means the cops are flat out all the time, day and night dealing with the criminals neo liberal greed politics create.

Jonky blaming drug use for children in poverty is clearly ludicrous, I think we can all agree on that. And the ironies keep on giving when one considers jonky himself went armed with a bottle of his favourite ethanol by way of a back handed apology to a woman he’d been molesting and abusing constantly for more than ten months and only after he was sprung by the brave woman here. Do you think, for a moment , that the cops want to be lumped in with that kind of behaviour? They have to look drunks and their victims in the eye daily and now they have to subject themselves to being randomly drug tested? If that’s not a clue as to the sentiment building within our police force then I don’t know what is.

Drug testing cops is a political threat. There can be no other reason for that. Just like it is for beneficiaries. It’s a threat and a control mechanism.

The bullying pact of bastards who are in our parliament buildings couldn’t give one small flying fuck about who dies from what . They could care less for who suffers from poverty or who uses drugs. The only thing they’re concerned about is maintaing a status quo until their job here is done.

It’s my view that the police need to arrest jonky pending a public inquiry into his various lies, deceits and treasons. Then we can move on to his many millions of dollars and his relationships with fancy types , both here and off-shore. And Judith Collins ? Back in Cabinet ? Hello ! ? Minister of Corrections and Police? She’s a sociopathic crook and now back in power . Serious power. If I was a cop? I’d be very worried. If I was a beneficiary ? I’d be voting, organising pressure groups and demanding politicians act accordingly.

  9. Seriously the guy is a disgrace!
Watch his performance in parliament; he is gifting NZ half a billion deficit as a Christmas present (yes indeed in contrast to all his & English promises of surplus for the sake of winning elections), more bad news for child poverty; accusing parents of being druggies and causing it.
Mr Key, you said in the house with utter arrogance you will wake up in the new year with 2 resolutions; one is personal (who cares about your weight or shape? really) and the second is not to believe anything from the other side of the house… What a disgusting performance, instead of doing something of value to help and support Kiwis during this holy period, you still choose to focus on only once thing: your interests to stay in office.
Shame on you… Shame on you and your mates!

  10. 134 beneficiaries failed drug tests out of 285,000 beneficiaries.

So how many drug tests were administered? If it was 135, then oh dear. If it was 285,000, then super!

Could you please provide figures to allow a sensible interpretation?

    Thanks.

      • If 8,000 then that’s 1.67%, for reich wing nutters who can’t math.

I think this may include those who refused the tests, for whatever reason, principle or otherwise, so actual drug use figures may be even lower

Not also known and relevant to the issue is the demograph, are the positives from singles no dependents or those with dependents. I hardly think occassional recreational use by single persons makes a difference to child poverty levels.

  11. His solution for drugs a few years ago was to drug test beneficiaries and if they failed cut their benefits and starve their kids.

  12. I wonder if they random booze and drug test MP’s before the sit in the house each day – it is a work site even if it is a bear pit and snooze barn most of the time. Late sittings should be mandatory as they would have alcohol with their evening meals. What a bunch of hypocrites our MP’s are. No wonder so much crap legislation is being passed these days, probably impaired judgment from the Cabinet of the day.

  13. I worked in a community organisation for two and a half years, with clients who were looking for work and looking to improve their skills and hopefully their chances of getting a job. They were ‘beneficiaries’.
Quite apart from the fact that there are just not enough jobs (a truth that is so accepted now that it is never even mentioned by the media), these were some of the hardest working people I have met.
They would fire off job applications, get repeatedly rejected, pick themselves up and go again. They lived the high life all right…. the cheapest food, no treats, constant stress about paying the rent/power/repairs to broken appliances, even making a choice about using public transport was a monetary issue.
But this doesn’t surprise me. It is textbook national party dogma and is designed to taint all people on benefits. And what’s really sad is, large numbers of us kiwis just love to hear it.
What does it say about us as a society that a huge chunk will just buy into this narrative , no questions asked?

  14. It is not beneficiaries and their kids that are the main drug users in this country. It is the rich pricks and their spoilt university student kids who snort most of the coke and conduct most of the public booze binges. It is the disillusioned middle class aspirants who get into the P. and get hooked onto it.
John Key gets away with a lot of lies and spin because the reality here is that Muddle Nu Ziland, by their pathogenic indifference, are just as responsible for the drugs and alcohol epidemic in this country.
However the truth makes them uncomfortable so they look to their dear leader to spout out the lies for them to make them feel better.

  15. I know the implication is I’m supposed to be making myself poorer by deliberatley squandering my benefit on illicit drugs, but does squandering my benefit (aka the hard-working tax payers money) on very legal prescribed drugs that have gone up to $5 an item plus the unfunded but necessary ones count? Because there’s no corresponding increase even in disability allowance technically my drug use is making me poorer, even though it’s saving said hard -working taxing payer thousands by avoiding hospital admissions. Perhaps I should give up my drug habit, you know, make some better choices?

  16. Muldoon was drunk-in-charge-of-the-country so often it’s a fricken miracle he never declared war on the Kermadecs in a fit of drunken rage.

Drug testing beneficiaries is National’s not-so-subtle way of telling the country that it’s the bene’s fault for daring to be unemployed, not National’s shonkey economic policies.

Watch them ramp up the assault on beneficiaries as they prepare for upcoming tax cuts for the Middle class and rich pricks.

  17. Some may be astonished, but what Key said is totally in line with National Party and government propaganda:

So Key is loyal to the message, the message of misinformation and propaganda, and in his and his government’s view, the benefit is a DRUG, and so people must be weaned off it!

  18. Beneficaries don’t have the financial resources to buy drugs on the open market, only people involved in criminal activity or undeclared earnings can afford to buy drugs. Unfortunately JK believes his own BS.
