  1. Yes to all that folks;

    So when NZ goes to the Global summit in September 2015 we had better ask Government to act to curb greenhouse emissions now;

    Government should be asked;

    1/ Why is Kiwirail (KR) shutting down their Electrified rail freight and passenger main trunk services?

    2/ And then using diesel & buying more diesel locomotives to pollute the planet instead?

    3/ Why is Kiwirail refusing to start or lease regional rail services again in the light of the evidence below in 4 & 5 ?

    4/ In all the productivity provinces HB – Gisborne, Wairapapa, Taranaki, why instead is KR closing down rail freight & only relying on truck freight that use 10 times more diesel to move one tonne one km and are up from 5 to 12 times less efficient than rail? (NIWA)

    5/ One truck pollutes more than 100 times one car, (NIWA) while rail has very little pollution according to Government studies From (Fuel and Energy report 1999) to move one tonne one KM?

    These questions require answers of this Government.

    Much more use of regional rail use now needs to be encouraged here due to the Climate Change global best practices policies outlined that NZ is a signatory to.

    Kiwirail CEO Peter Reidy states, on page 19.

    “KiwiRail to freight goods effectively removes around 1.2 million
    trucks from our roads, enables around $100 million of roading
    upgrades to be deferred, and provides environmental savings of
    some $10–12 million as well as saving some $20 million in safety
    costs.”

  2. Tony Freidlander is pro-trucking and probably has a lot of influence in the halls of power.
    Trains by their bulk efficiency take money straight out of the main freight companies pockets.
    Truck companies don’t want any of those commie left-wing socialist railways taking away their chance to make a fortune.
