Dirty Politics: Coming To A TV Station Near You

Glucina

Oh dear. Not content with caving in to Prime Ministerial pressure in getting rid of John Campbell, MediaWorks has now managed to go from really bad to almost inconceivably worse by headhunting former Herald gossip columnist Rachel Glucina.

You know, the woman outed in Dirty Politics as an active agent of Cameron Slater.

The one who got called in by the Nats to run snowjob interference over #PonyTailGate in the most dodgy piece of “reporting” this year.

The alleged “journalist” who wasn’t above tricking a victim of workplace harassment into an interview using the most deplorable of false pretenses.

Yes. THAT one.

Well, she’s announced that she’s quit the NZ Herald after being “head-hunted” by MediaWorks.

Truly, as Sophocles wrote in Philoctetes: “Nothing evil ever perishes; the gods somehow give them most excellent care – they take their pleasure in turning back from the gates of the Underworld, the villains and the tricksters.

Between this and Paul Henry (him of the abysmally low ratings and former National Party candidacy for Parliament) … it isn’t hard to view TV3 as descending into perhaps the lowest pits of iniquity possible for a serious mainstream broadcaster.

This is pretty bad. And from a cursory examination of the comments offered by MediaWorks chief executive Mark Wheldon, it looks like the idea is to use Glucina’s talents for sensationalism and muckraking to produce viral videos lambasting the right wing’s preferred choice of targets.

Snackable, shareable content“, eh?

Well dine out on this.

Unless TV3 and Mediaworks put some serious investment – not just money, but actual credibility – into resurrecting their brand and its scruples, it is going to continue to nose-dive into the volcano of public sentiment.

Replacing quality investigative journalism (a la Campbell) with tawdry gossip-rag rumourmongering is NOT what the people want!

No matter HOW useful it might be to National and Glucina’s shadowy paymasters.

  1. Tabloid television. Toilet television. NatzKEY television. Take your pick. The outcome will be the same … SCRAPING FILTH FROM THE GUTTER television!

All that is needed now is for WhaleOil to join the rest of the toxic scum at MediaWorks/TV3 and the scenario will be complete for a NatzKEY propaganda broadcasting channel, if it isn’t already that now!

NZ broadcasting has never been in a more darker, ominous place than it is at the moment.

  2. This does have an upside. Given that almost every form of sentient life in this country is well aware of what sort of noxious troll Glucina is, people no longer need feel guilty about boycotting TV3. We can all quite purposefully do our part in consigning this abomination to the dustbin of history, because that’s where maggots truly belong.

  3. not sure where to post this, its neil youngs comments about the use of his song b y trump, had to lol a bit as its true

Yesterday my song “Rockin in the Free World” was used in a announcement for a U.S. presidential candidate without my permission.

A picture of me with this candidate was also circulated in conjunction with this announcement but It was a photograph taken during a meeting when I was trying to raise funds for Pono, my online high resolution music service.

Music is a universal language. so I am glad that so many people with varying beliefs get enjoyment from my music, even if they don’t share my beliefs.

But had I been asked to allow my music to be used for a candidate – I would have said no.

I am Canadian and I don’t vote in the United States, but more importantly I don’t like the current political system in the USA and some other countries. Increasingly Democracy has been hijacked by corporate interests. The money needed to run for office, the money spent on lobbying by special interests, the ever increasing economic disparity and the well funded legislative decisions all favor corporate interests over the people’s.

The Citizens United Supreme Court ruling is proof of this corruption as well as are the proposed trade deals which would further compromise our rights.
These Corporations were originally created to serve us but if we don’t appropriately prioritize they will destroy us. Corporations don’t have children. They don’t have feelings or soul. They don’t depend on uncontaminated water, clean air or healthy food to survive. They are beholden to one thing – the bottom line.
I choose to speak Truth to this Economic Power. When I speak out on corporations hurting the common man or the environment or other species, I expect a well financed disinformation campaign to be aimed my way.
Such is the case with the reaction to my new album The Monsanto Years, which covers many of these issues. I support those bringing these issues to light and those who fight for their rights like Freedom of Choice.
But Freedom of Choice is meaningless without knowledge.
Thats why its crucial we all get engaged and get informed.
That’s why GMO labeling matters. Mothers need to know what they are feeding their children. They need freedom to make educated choices at the market. When the people have voted for labeling, as they have in Vermont, they need our support when they are fighting these corporate interests trying to reverse the laws they have voted for and passed in the democratic process.

I do not trust self serving misinformation coming from corporations and their media trolls. I do not trust politicians who are taking millions from those corporations either. I trust people. So I make my music for people not for candidates.

Keep on Rockin in the Free World.

    • Now Neil Young – is not only an artist that has stood the test of time ,he is also an artist whose poetry extends to reacquainting a modern generation to the historical injustices the length and breadth of the America’s.

From Canada to the USA to the South American populations …historical events and individuals who shaped the fabric of those peoples even down to this day…

I am glad you posted this because it bears total relevance to the very same issues that are currently besetting this country…tied as we are now with American corporate interests in perverting our sovereign nations laws.

Evidence of this being the TTPA and TISA.

And part of that relevance is the despicable political takeover of TV3 . It is so patently obvious that the hand of Steven Joyce is firmly behind all this. Being a barely disguised attempt to subvert public opinion.

Using the age old tactics of the Romans by providing bread and circuses.

Thusly because of this ,….Joyce is seen to be a very dangerous individual.

Why ?….because he – and others like him – are now demonstrating a very real contempt for accurate analysis of decisions being made that are NOT in this country’s best interests.

By muzzling bone fide investigative journalism ,…indeed – by purging those who would disagree with many of their stances….this is in fact, …following along the classic footsteps of any totalitarian state.

One could argue that the ejecting of Cambell Live has blown up in their face – and that TV 3 are indeed now feeling the backlash…..

But to add further to ostracizing their viewer base….they attempt to employ Glucina…an incredibly foolish decision which will further exacerbate the public’s growing cynicism to that broadcasting station.

The fact that that individual has been overly exposed not only for her obvious political bias – but more so because of the tactics and associates she kept and gleefully carried out against the democratic process by being part of the dirty politics machine….

Demonstrates a total underestimation and misinterpretation of just how much the public actually disdains those tarred with the whole dirty politics ensemble.

It clearly demonstrates a gross lack of insight and political wisdom to even consider doing so – save perhaps if the media station simply wants to relegate itself to a position whereby it is not taken seriously at all.

To which …it would appear that this is in fact what its current CEO’s are aiming for.

      • the pope spelt out some of the issues nz is facing, technically any catholic supporting keys natzi party is anti pope therefore supporting the devil, have to say the pope has this one right – not that i have any illusion a natzi supporter can think laterally if at all.

Pope Francis called Thursday for a bold cultural revolution to correct what he said was a “structurally perverse” economic system in which the rich exploited the poor, turning Earth into an “immense pile of filth.

        http://www.news-gazette.com/news/nationworld/2015-06-18/updated-pope-urges-revolution-save-earth-fix-perverse-economy.html

        • I don’t doubt the pope’s conclusion but even a basic history knowledge should warn us away from giving him any political power, they were not called the dark ages for nothing.

        • I haven’t read the story. But at least the pope has the balls to come out and say it for what it really is. A perverse economy, where the rich continually disadvantage the poor…

  4. Was probably all part of ‘the deal’ to smear the waitress, so she could land a role in television. No morals this lot.

    • kim dandy. I don’t think Amanda Bayly is interest in appearing on tv ,she wouldnt be known if it wasn’t for that sleeze bag Glucina. Glucina is rewarded while Amanda is cheated. If Amanda Bayley had allowed Mcready to bring charges as should have happened, she would have been vindicated. Maybe Jk bribed her , who knows, but after all the support she got from T D B maybe she should have thought things through ,any wonder JK looked so smug.

      • @ELLE
Kimdandy is talking about Glucina landing a role in TV. He is saying that she probably got bribed with that offer to smear the waitress.

        • If Glucina replaces, Campbell Live, then we know that the revolution is complete, as Orwell said in Animal Farm
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

    • Aye. But they need to do some updating. Pathetic wankers. They just down vote without any thought to what’s written. Idiots.

      • Be kind – reading is an heroic struggle for Gnats.

And as for maths – look at Bill English – doesn’t have a clue.

        • The problem is, he does. He knows that “average” and “median” are entirely different things, and banks on the average (here I use the word in the common sense) kiwi not questioning his eternal quotations of “average wage” etc, and consequent complete refusal to ever quote medians in his press releases. He can fabricate an illusion while telling the truth. As much as I hate the guy, his party, and his policies, he’s not an idiot. A prick, though – Yes, absolutely.

  5. message to John Campbell + Glenn Greenwald

Surely there’s something in the UN Convention against torture that prohibits this??

  6. Rachel Glucina and John Key are bosom buddies, with their middle finger in the air for viewers.Well we viewers can give them thumbs down and boycott anything to do with Mediaworks.
Mediaworks employ some nasty little items,Mike Hoskins ,Paul Henry,Patrick Gower. The decent people they employ suffer for it,so when the viewers diminish ,those good people go elsewhere. couldn’t happen soon enough.

  7. Another book like “Where the Wild things Are” by Maurice Sendak? But in the ‘Horror’ section of the library?

    “Headhunting the Gruesima.”

  8. Maybe it is time for TDB TV? I cannot bear any more of such sickening, depressing news, where is society heading, and nobody out there seems to be doing all that much to take action against all this, FFS, give me a break.

  9. When I lived in Europe for a while over ten years ago, one trend amongst private broadcasters was to show videos with seductive, stripping women, and sometimes also men, late at night, after midnight, as “gap fillers”, between lots of ads.

Are we heading that way next, to “mix up” the infomercials next?

  10. Should ‘we’ be bothered with what Media Works does at all?
If ‘we’ are boycotting them, then who cares?
Shouldn’t a boycott include even commenting on them?

    • “Shouldn’t a boycott include even commenting on them?”

I don’t think so. Taking a stand against something quite necessarily includes raising the subject. By refusing to mention it, we would only be sweeping it under the carpet, allowing it to do as it pleases unchallenged. What if the international community had never challenged Pol Pot, and merely said “let’s just not mention it, let it fade into obscurity.” An extreme extrapolation of the logic, I’ll admit, but you get my point – You gotta stand against something, or else you’re just standing for it.

  11. The cooking filler on 3 is too tragic for belief – a career ender for anyone involved in it.

  12. Parallels with the doyen of western civilisation – the USA

“Political theater works because many […] have been systematically indoctrinated and severed from reality. Our corporate masters have built a mass culture centered on the cult of the self […]. Neoliberal ideology infects every institution and belief system. Those who suffer deserve to suffer. Victims are responsible for their victimhood. We can all achieve wealth and prosperity with hard work. This mantra permits us to be cruel and heartless to the weak and the vulnerable, especially the poor as well as women and children, whom we discard as human refuse. Our warped neoliberal vision is defined as progress.”

“The replacement of history with myth, the use of mass surveillance and the [GCSB] Act to shut down any investigation into the centers of power, the collapse of journalism, the deformation of education into a vocational program for the corporate state, along with mindless forms of entertainment and spectacle, create obedient subjects that demand their own enslavement.”

Nietzsche wrote about “the Last Man” in the prologue of “Thus Spoke Zarathustra.” “Alas! The time of the most contemptible man is coming, the man who can no longer despise himself.”
