Just when you thought it couldn’t get much worse, the latest Roy Morgan Poll has National surging 8.5% and the Opposition vote collapsing 7.5%.

During May support for the National Government was up 8.5% to 54% as positive news on the NZ Budget was progressively released. The National-led Government has a large lead over a Labour/Greens alliance with their support at 42% (down 7.5%), according to the latest Roy Morgan New Zealand Poll.

If a National Election were held now the latest New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll shows that National would win easily and be able to govern in their own right.

Support for the Maori Party (National partners) dropped to 1% (down 0.5%) while support is unchanged for both Act NZ 1% and United Future 0%.

Support has decreased for all three Parliamentary Opposition parties: Labour’s support is now at 25.5% (down 2%), Greens 10.5% (down 3%) and NZ First 6% (down 2.5%). For the parties outside Parliament the Conservative Party of NZ is 1% (unchanged) while the Internet-Mana Party alliance is at 0% (unchanged) and support for Independent/ Others is 1% (down 0.5%).

Labour have slipped off the radar as they try and work out what the bloody hell happened in the election and that lack of visibility has burnt them in this poll. The cargo cult love affair with Key continues totally unabated and NZers have thrown in their lot with National.

The only thing that will change voters minds will be an economic collapse from the property market popping or National turning on themselves as over confidence tip them too far right.  Too many voters on the left have either switched off altogether or have swallowed the excuses of the Government and see no connection between their daily struggles and Key’s policy.

Despite inequality, despite hollow economic growth, despite a speculative housing bubble, despite 250 000 hungry kids – nothing matters. In John we trust.

A devastating result for progressives.

  1. 8.5% more rednecks giving their approval for John Key’s pony-tail pulling foreplay.

It’s not just the Labour Party collapsing, it’s obviously Roy Morgan forgot to poll kiwi women.

    • Winnie I never believe the polls ,we never know who was polled in what area , they are not honest polls .when public opinion is against National ,the polls say they have increased .Its all a con and a load of hogwash.

      • We do actually. Roy Morgan are traditionally recognised as one of the more reliable by left and right alike and their methodology is disclosed.

Different polls might be a couple of % out of the day, but when you focus on the trends and averages of the polls, the information is there, and it’s pretty illuminating.

        “Public opinion is against National”.

Ever consider that the people you talk to, and the circles you move in, might not be representative of the opinions of the wider NZ electorate? Maybe you are the “defective poller”?

Either way, pretending the published polls are wrong won’t help you win next time.

        • What about Northland then Mr Iscariot, what did that tell of peoples opinion of Key,a very blue area before the people woke up to Key and his bad behavior

  2. Sickening that it makes you think if these pools are rigged for NatZ push forward on all their unpopular policies they need these figures?

I would rather err of the side of caution here.

Mind you Labour and Greens have both really gone underground of late so without any real opposition except for NZ First we can not see any untied opposition to offer any swing voter at present.

Anyway watch this video perhaps we can see in the surveillance is even spying on President and Prime ministers so if we can get a whistle blower to see what these shady PM and Presidents dealings leaked by Edward Snowdon who says he can see from his Russian desk what they re up to???

    Anyone got his contact details?

He can dig dirt on key??

    Watch this video now.

Good to see the left have shaken up two elections in EU yesterday. Spain regional elections threw out the right wingers with the bath water out big-time there.

  3. Shame. Labour have to do something to wake NZers up Teflon John can do no wrong in there eyes. They have to start some kind of campaign to show what is happening before its too late it may be already

  4. Is anybody really surprised???

Paul Henry seems firmly seated on his new breakfast radio and TV slot now, spouting off about “morons”, “arseholes”, when commenting about beneficiary activists protesting outside his beloved Sky City, that is just one aspect to consider.

Hosking et al still hold one other early radio bastion, and are also fronting the lighthearted after-news show on “state broadcaster” TVNZ. Shaun Plunket (aka Plonkers) has settled in well at Radio Live(ing) Dead for the rest of the morning, rubbishing Labour, Greens, and at times NZ First and Winston. He is “balanced” he assures us, totally “unbiased”.

Duncan Garner in the afternoons, apart from his obsession with housing and migrants, which seems to be his personal campaign for “affordable housing” (firstly for HIMself), is loyal also, to the neoliberal, Key led political agenda. He called AAAP protestors “thugs”, and he also has harsh words for other dissenters at times, and is never short of personal views.

Campbell Live is now neutralised and will soon be shifted out of his prime time slot, that will get the rest of “bothersome” media out of the picture, so the replacements can be expected to be mindful where their pay and job come from, and thus will tow the line.

The formerly still too daringly objective, focused, political Radio NZ and their breakfast show now has been handed to boring and mostly careful, obedient Guyon and Sue some good time ago, it is no longer any significant “competition”. Nine to Noon is hosted by a well to do, more and more chat focused Kathryn Ryan, who is happy to only ask the occasional, “daring” question to persons she interviews. It is a time slot not that important, on a broadcaster that does not appeal to most, deemed too boring and academic.

Key though appears on most breakfast shows, on private radio, on TV, and he is also getting the Parliamentary Gallery reporters hang around him like flies to a cow’s bum, to be fed wee little bits of daily political infotainment, and one liner messages, that is keeping the Twitter-sphere busy and focused on him and his loyal ones, Leader Kim John Key, the Grandiose Teflon Leader.

Most others of “commoners” out there are left to struggle, compete, work, work, work yet more, study, chat on social media about trivial nonsense, exchanging “news” about fads and gadgets, that keeps them ignorant of what happens in the Beltway. If information is deemed relevant, it is about the going price for consumer goods, a car, and investment homes, none else.

O.I.A.s are now handled so, that only irrelevant info is released by government departments and Ministers, the courts are kept clear of “riff raff” challenging government and business, with RMA and other actions, due to stringent limits on legal aid, that sees to government being made easy.

And for the rest, all “lower” citizens are kept dependent on meagre hand-outs from such as WINZ, and swiftly trespassed or intimidated, should they dare complain, it keeps the lower levels of society at bay. Shut up and be grateful, go and work, if you want to be part of something is the stern message.

The police are physically well shaped and trained with lots of perks, pay and get free body-building in their exclusive gyms, they deal to those trying to bend the rules, and also ordinary drivers going just a bit over the speed limit. Bang, there’s a ticket, mate. And if protestors dare stand in front of them, they get flung to the ground to show who is boss.

The nations is in “good” and “firm” hands, the machinery works, who needs election campaigns, when media are in your pocket, thankful for the annual Pinot Noir, and for social function invites? Who needs opinions, if they are delivered with constant messaging, commercial and other ads, 24/7? It is all “in order”, the “rockstar economy” is “booming”, and you are all in “safe hands”.

So the polls do deliver, there is NO opposition in sight, it is “snookered”, we hear, the commentariat sings it in unison, and chants it out of their mouths like mantras. “Outflanked”, by the smarter governing parties and leaders, there is no flank left to occupy or pass for dissenters. Political commentators regularly heard and seen, are such as Mike Williams, Rodney Hide, Miss Pagani, that woman from the Herald, the former president of the National Party, Michelle Boag, and other “senior” opinion shapers.

Come election 2017, the victory will be sweet, 95 percent for National, hail thee, hail thee, one People, one Empire, one Leader, one Victory, a Final Victory, we are “on the cusp” of it!

    • Mike,

The opposition has a real problem Labour sees itself as superior to the Greens who are unable to view any other party’s ideas of the world as relevant. NZ First appear to have more in common with National than any other party but the respective leaders do not see appear to share common views. Winston Peters was originally a national member and still has many right wing views.

Imagine Winston as leader of the opposition!!

  5. When the government is as corrupt as it is, spilling over with dirty politics, with even enough clout to get rid of one of NZ’s top journalists – then why could they not manipulate the polls? A few people in the right places, money changes hands, a nod and a wink… I’m sorry, I always have to go back to the ‘trust no one’ line when it comes to this National Government.

  6. OK, this is likely to sound wholly unpalatable but bear with me. Why is National surging? In my opinion it’s because the vast majority of voters rightly or wrongly (assuming they even want to vote) don’t see a credible alternative. What is Labour? Well that’s possibly a question for the ages as they seem to be forgoing the fundamentals of their historical constituency and are struggling to find an identity. The greens have good policy but can’t shrug off the spectre of the historical “tree hugging” persona and the rest have been confined to minor party status by the ineptitude of the left to project and encourage a cohesive coalition.

This bullshit of arguing over the Centre ground is just that – bullshit. The voters aren’t dumb, they don’t want a different shade of what we already have. They want substantive options and right now who is providing it? Noone.

Who proposes to materially improve the lives of the downtrodden? Who has a view on decoupling from the US led five eyes intelligence network and returning a semblance of privacy and liberty to us as citizens? Who is publicly screaming about the injustice contained within the TPPA? Who wants to address the poverty gap in NZ with tangible actions? Who wants to revise the debt/endless growth tripe that we have been sold as economic policy since the early 80’s? In short who the fuck wants to represent us rather than themselves or their own ideology?

I don’t know about you guys but I don’t see anyone. I’d rather give myself a frontal lobotomy with a spoon than vote national but I can at least posit why Jo Public chooses to. Give me a decent societally focused party any day but where are they?

  7. THATNZGUY.
I totally agree and know many who do also.
This mob( in govt) believe we’re ALL stupid.
    I ‘liked’ your post…but accidently pressed the wrong button…and try as I might…it WOULDN’T cancel….
See how easy it is, to have technology stuff-up, and get the wrong result ?
