Come on. Let’s just swap Hosking to 3 and Campbell Live to TVNZ.

That way the Right wing can have TV3 and the Progressive audience can have TVNZ.

That Hosking would attack the decision by the young woman to have her voice on this Blog in light of the appalling way Rachel Glucina and the NZ Herald behaved is delusional Mike.

Hosking says she should have gone to the mainstream media, well we can see the awful abuse of ethics those in the mainstream media were prepared to stoop to while manipulating the story and sowing the seeds of defence for the PM.

Glucina tried to put words into her mouth while deceiving her as to who she actually was and the purpose of the interview. The Herald was then directly informed of this.

That sort of scumbaggery is the glory of the free market, everything Mike worships. Hosking should be on the airwaves of a foreign owned company, not the public airwaves.

Let’s start demanding that TVNZ sack Hosking and hire Campbell Live!

    • Couldn’t agree more with the Campbell Live move to TVNZ, but would prefer for Hosking to move to Fox News.

Better still, to that other media dictatorship, namely, Korean Evening News (with captions of course). If Paul Henry can command 3 media platforms, surely there’s room for Hosking to broadcast from his 2012 California Convertible Ferrari (with the mirror-tint facing inwards).

There would be synergies and energy savings for TV3’s Christie and Weldon – with the sun shining out of Hosking’s arse, there would be no need for mood lighting and considerable savings in electricity, maybe enough to pay back Stephen Joyce’s $43 million bribe investment!

  1. It’s a thought that’s crossed my mind, and have mentioned it somewhere…

With TVNZ’s captive audience ratings, and Campbell Lives’ professionalism – it would be an unbeatable combo.

Hosking on TV3 would be appropriate, if short-lived. The vastly reduced audience (there are only so many ill-informed rednecks in this country) would soon signal the death knell of Mediaworks.

And I would take no pleasure in hundreds of workers losing their jobs.

Ironic really… Campbell Live is probably helping TV3 to survive.

  2. +100….Great idea for Campbell Live to go to TVNZ….and jettison Hosking outta there….they are mismatched to their tv stations

( no one will miss Hosking , the trashy turnip, whereas everyone would miss Campbell )

Campbell Live is the perfect fit for a dignified, yet friendly, yet hard hitting investigative journalism flagship …the nation’s television station ….TVNZ

    • you have to admit that Campbell has sharpened up a bit since the pressure has been on….got a bit more interesting.

      • Not at all. His show has always been interesting – and intelligent, not a word you’d associate with Hosking, Henry and co.

  3. I like it. Campbell Live is real news and current affairs and should be on TVNZ. The Hosking show (and that’s what it should be called) is just a fluffier version of crappy fluff! Then watch the quick, although painful demise of TV3 and Hosking.

I see the “P” word has been used by Martyn in his blog. “P” for “PROGRESSIVE.”

That’s what’s desperately needed, alternative PROGRESSIVE media sites, where the delivered news is not sanitized to dumb down the citizenry, to suit government. Good name as well, Progressive Media News 🙂

      • Funny that you seem hostile to people expressing a viewpoint on this matter, Gosman. Do you not believe in free speech? Do you really think the only way to make a point is to spend money? Is that your idea of free speech?

Maybe you should set up your own blog. That would cost you nothing.

        • Same thought Elle. But let’s face it, there’s some real damage control going on here by paid trolls from the right.

The Rolf Harris, Jimmy Saville and Gary Glitter trials have shown that justice for creepy guys with wandering hands does take a long time to uncover and even longer to prosecute. There are many similarities between these convicted inappropriate touchers and the events itemised here.

Very few people would have believed the victims. Now we have the right wingers scrambling around trying blame the victim, divert attention, minimise the creepy touching.

I read a post comment on a blog here about Roger Sutton resigning because of his inappropriate touching. Why can’t the same level of accountability not be taken by the PM? Why won’t he resign, instead of minimisinig his touching as “horsing around”.

Members of the establishment like Key, Saville, Glitter and Harris are all likeable. They are defended by the likes of Gosman and Nehemia Wall and all those others that took the side of the creepy perps, instead of the victims. But sooner or later their fetishes will be their undoing and justice will prevail.

      • That’s a good point. If it had any viability, it would succeed. Of course based on the turnout at the Campbell protest march, we all know it would fail miserably.

      • @ GOSMAN –

FYI Gossy, I am an old bird, coming up 69, so a little bit on the wrong side of life for becoming an entrepreneurial media tycoon I think, as thrilling and exciting as the prospect seems. Besides that, I don’t have a few million plus dollars at my disposal!

Is that good enough for you?

  4. How the Hell did a jerk like Hoskins ever get the job. Who is doing the planting.

You have to look at TVNZ administration surely, or is it a lone wolf attacking NZ sensibility. I think not or Hoskins act would be moderated by management.
    What is their price?

The rot is in the core.

    • I almost agree with the comment of Hosking being sent to Radio Timbuktu. Somewhere more remote would be better.

While the rot at the core might be TVNZ administration and management the real rot and real core is to do with our society.

The values which Hosking is the pin-up boy for are the values many have and that’s why they watch him and why TVNZ want him.

The self-centred, I’m better than you Jack, Flash Harry moral code and ways of seeing our short time on the planet, are the stuff of Hosking. They are the core and he is the sign of the rot.

The most bewildering thing is the “state broadcaster” acknowledging we’re up shit creek by paddling harder up it but when the directors of the state are John Key and Steven Joyce is that any surprise?

      • Why not send Hoskins to the dog pound he looks like a pekinise they would take him in im sure, but his yelping would upset all the dogs because they would try to bite his ribbon. Im tired and being naughty tonight, no disrespect to Pekinese.

    • “You have to look at TVNZ administration surely ……….., ………..The rot is in the core.”
And there’s the problem. It’s a nice idea (moving Campbell to TVNZ) except that TVNZ in know (oops NO) way represents public service broadcasting under the current arrangements. Their primary concern is as a commercial enterprise and that will not change until there are some fundamental changes.
      – such as managerial/CEO/Board appointments having bipartisan approval
      – such as the idea that public funding should be used in the public’s interest
      – such as the old excuse that we’re only a nation of 4 mill and we can’t afford PSB – it’s been trotted out for years
      – such as the idea that PSB should be judged on commercial imperatives (rather than the Public interest
-such as the idea that we supposedly live in a democracy (something JK was so anxious to preach in a recent interview with Lucy Hockings)

It’s not JUST TVNZ that’s the problem. NZoA too, as well as how our airwaves have been commercialised via Kordia without due regard for any PSB space.

There needs to be a huge shakeup and one that eliminates the cronyism, the politicisation, the old-boy/new-boy/stardom bullshit that bedevils news & current affairs, and that hampers the promotion of NZ Music and culture, displaying our cultural identity ….. The current arrangements simply mean the ONLY criteria is whether of not something is going to be a ‘commercial success’ – whether or not it contributes to involving the NZ citizenry/PRs

    • It started way back when Hosking replaced Kim Hill on Morning Report so as to get rid of someone perceived by the Nats as left (when all she was doing was a damn good job), and replace her – at the behest of the government of the day, via a compliant board and CEO – with Hosking. It was during the time of the Bolger government. Political interference in the media – especially but not only TV and radio – is a not-so-subtle ‘planting’ practice the Nats have been employing for decades.

  5. How would that work then Campbell would b working for the Government how could he criticize them. That why they have the dumbed down 7 sharp and jks main. Man Hosking working there Tvnz would never employ him.

    • Wrong. The system of TVNZ being be funded by the Govt does not necessarily mean that TVNZ cannot be kept independent and away from influence by Govt., as all public servants are supposed to be. A well-educated public would be vigilant and make this happen.
We never had a public that was quite well-educated enough. We were seduced by our hatred of the TV licence fee into thinking that TV funded by advertising would be better.
We abandoned that old fee system, and now we have the fat, parasitic middle-man Marketing industry that ruins quality TV, and imposes worse censorship and slanting of the news (not to mention dumbing-down) than ever could have happened under the old system, given our slightly ‘democratic’ system of government.

The marketers are the money-changers cast out by Christ because they invaded and debased God’s temple. They have now pervaded our society and debased our MSM.

We need a rigorously independent state broadcasting system. Private Enterprise has convincingly shown that it cannot be trusted any more than Goebbles.

  6. While I agree with the idea in principle, and argued that it would result in stellar ratings for Campbell Live as a result, something tells me that the executive branch at TVNZ would have other ideas about that.

  7. Timbuktu or Turkey would be better but TV3 is now the mouthpiece of national and Paddy Gower is the ass licker of FJK.

John Campbell belongs to an honest neutral unbiased TV network!!!!

Have we got one of those????

    No no no no no.

  8. What a perfect solution Martyn, I could then watch the news and Campbell Live after and not be worried that if I didn’t change the channel fast enough I would be assaulted by 7 Sharp, or if I left the room during the sports news I would miss the beginning of Campbell Live. Since the last election I refuse to willingly watch the channel 3 news, I was so disappointed/angry with the political coverage.

  9. It’s disgraceful how media in this country has become so partisan, and predominately so in one direction.

Campbell Live can be considered as having a format similar to what could be regarded as the traditional seven o’clock current affairs programme. Even though Paul Holmes had his right-wing bent, which was readily apparent in his short-lived show on Prime and various controversies, Holmes on One however was a programme with journalistic objectivity, and now in retrospect, seems like hit hitting journalism compared to the atrocious standards on television today.

Seven Sharp is a pre-eminent example of these atrocious present standards, from its original wretched format to its present one. It might as well be known as ZB Live with what appears an opinionated narcissist ranting away. That closing rant definitely confirms the programme is devoid of any journalistic professionalism. That this is an offering of our state broadcaster is truly obscene.

Frankly, television in this country is in crisis, in the last year alone it haemorrhaged at least three channels, to my count; Trackside, Sommet Sports, and recently Cue. It appears the channels and quality programming bled in the last three years in particular has not ended or stabilised.

It appears by being commercialised, television is in terminal decline. Why bother making an effort to produce quality, enlightening, thought-provoking content when it’s easier to effortlessly inflame emotions and rake up the profits.

  10. How about John Campbell staying where he is and continuing his occasional focus on the ugly bits that the govt would rather not us hear about and Hose King , I mean Hosking retire and let someone better do his job.

Many are glad when his rants are over as it often signals that he will soon be off the air. He does not see why so many can not stand his biased motor mouth. Many see right through such cynical and one sided journalism and we deserve much better. Radio is diminished in quality by his input and he does not even realize why. Like Key, both will deny and diminish anyone who is not on their train or who does not support their infantile and unethical lack of telling the truth and taking responsibility.
Rant on Key and Hosking, both of your days are likely numbered.
Only the honest and ethical and compassionate seem to be supported by those thinking and aware folks.

  11. Better still, send the Hosking creature to Antarctica.

There he would be able to broadcast, telling the millions of penguins how great he is and the (not so) secret of his success!

  12. We fund Rio Tinto and we fund the Oracle boat building company at Warkworth because they’re important for our well-being. Does anyone know how much we fund TVNZ?

      • Usually, but not this year due to the former TVNZ south being given to skycity. It was part of the deal, no dividend payable by TVNZ if the land swap went ahead.
