I wonder if we will see, in about 3 and a half years time, as much preparation into commemorating the end of the Great War, you know the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month… etc, as we did with the Gallipoli disaster. My guess is probably not, peace doesn’t seem to be as interesting to celebrate as does a meaningless pointless, bloody battle.
    Before I get accused of being heartless, I would like to point out that NZ suffered many casualties in the European killing fields as well as in Turkey and that the end of hostilities in Europe meant that no more New Zealanders would die in battle there. Of course that excludes the ones that died of influenza, but we don’t hear much about them, do we?
