Well, well, well. What do we have here?
Government could send SAS to Iraq
New Zealand’s elite Special Air Service (SAS) could be deployed to Iraq to protect Kiwi troops sent to train local forces.Prime Minister John Key confirmed that was one option under consideration as the government continues to weigh up its response to the rise of Islamic State (IS) n Iraq and Syria.
…so before the election Key states NZ won’t be involved in the re-invasion of Iraq, then immediately after he wins he states we will be involved, but not in combat, as trainers ‘behind the wire’. Turns out ‘behind the wire’ is just some spin line for the sleepy hobbits and now Key says we will need SAS to protect the trainers. What’s most evil about all of this is that Key and his corrupt Government have whipped up Muslim fear mongering to justify this military action and suddenly increase the SIS to have 48 hour warrantless searches so the State can break into our homes, plant spy cameras and secretly film us for 48 hours without any judicial oversight.
With Chris Finlayson’s admission on The Nation last weekend that these expanded powers won’t just be used against religious groups but anyone within society who has a chip on their shoulder, that gives the Government a bewilderingly large loophole they could drive a Police State through.
The manipulations and lies NZers will put up with from Key are a thing to behold, Key could personally lead an attack against an Iraqi kindergarden and machine gun every last child in it, and a vast chunk of Muddle Nu Zilind would probably petition that he win a Victoria Cross for bravery.
This is what full spectrum dominance of the political system looks like and we have 3 more horrific years of it.
This is a classic example of the incrementalism that Key undertakes. First, prior to the election – we aren’t going. Second, after the election – we’re going but only in a highly limited capacity ‘behind the wire’ for training purposes only. Now, we’re also going to need to send some SAS troops to protect those trainers. I trust Martyn didn’t miss the final line of the article either, “Highly trained regular forces could also be an option.”
So, we’ve gone from sending nobody to sending highly trained regular forces being an option in less than a few months. Anybody who has studied Key will also know that he puts out as options things which he has already decided on. This is so his mate David Farrar can poll the public to gauge their support or otherwise. This isn’t so that they’ll know whether to proceed, they will proceed, in their minds they couldn’t possibly be wrong. It’s so they know how to spin the message. In other words so they know how to lie to the public of New Zealand in a manner they’ll accept.
What are we doing on the economic and diplomatic fronts to try and limit support for IS from nation-states which are friendly with them like Saudi Arabia? The answer is very little.
On NZ’s participation in Iraq –
First it’s “no”.
Then “I can’t say for sure”.
To be followed post election by “yes”.
And now despite, assurances the SAS wouldn’t be involved, all of a sudden it’s likely they will be!
I’d say Key’s buddy and mentor Mr Pres has had a brief confidential word in his grubby little ear hole, sometime during the APEC and G20 (G21?) meetings!
Mr Pres – “Come on John, if you know what’s good for you, give us your cannon fodder.”
JK (dribbling and drooling and tugging his forelock) – “Absolutely Mr Pres. How many Kiwis would you like?”
Cringing, creepy toerag!
Why do you keep referring to it as a “Re-invasion of Iraq”, when Iraq is the one under attack by ISIS?
Most of ISIL are Iraqis. They are attacking other Iraqis. Iraq is devouring itself, and part of it is under attack by the West. Foreign soldiers going back are re-invading. Simple.
Yes…a classic case of what one security advisor stated on Radio Live as ‘MISSION CREEP’…no ..not John Key ,…but the progression from advisors, to trainers to mentors to leaders of foriegn troops into combat.
Key is a liar. Plain and simple. Like the guy who has a policy of only telling what he deems others need to know, ..he says one thing, whilst leaving the door wide open to implement what he really means to do.
We will be involved . Its as plain and simple as that. And the smokescreen of our people just being there to build bullshit bridges and schools is a worn out old cover up that no one believes anymore and accepts that the govt is lieing again.
As for Finlayson – the man is a fool…hot on the heels of the case of the guy who escaped to Brazil…with him saying departments and systems are now under review to ensure ‘it wont happen again’…was the case of the guy who escaped to Brisbane…within the same week , basically.
And this is the man in charge of our new fascist surveillance state?
Pitiful.
You don’t understand fascism.
This is what full spectrum dominance of the political system looks like and we have 3 more horrific years of it.
I have the dreadful feeling it will be more than three years considering ongoing developments.
Should we blindly trust? How easy would it be to dip one’s beak if one was in a certain position?
It looks as though every Iraqi soldier will get to have a personal trainer at this rate! My, how very well trained they will be – they have been getting trained for donkeys years now! Now trainers (from NZ) look as though they might need their own trainers (in how to look after themselves!)
At least after 6 years Nationals pattern of implementing things they know are wrong is now quick to identify. Key fronts it, lies about the true intention and then dresses it up in fractional truths as he slowly reveals incomplete bits of what is going on. If it gets uncomfortable call on a diversion or a smear campaign.
And the use of catch phrases is just another way of coating the big arse lie in a film of truth. “Behind the wire” is a meaningless phrase. It’s there to conjure up an image, of being protected behind something not going beyond it, say behind barbed wire of a walled city, or behind the wire of the front line trenches of the Somme. Just like “Strong wages”, a Key favourite prior to the election to make you think strong wage growth which of course was an utter lie but then Key never said strong wage growth or in this matter not ending up in combat. I mean what can you do if these crazies end up behind the wire too! Its words arranged in a meaningless sentence designed to deceive.
Of course our political media commentators John Armstrong et al don’t pick up on Keys doublespeak ever and National know Kiwi’s are trusting simple souls so on it will go!
Do we need the SAS? There is no point in training and paying people to do nothing.
I wonder if they’ll bring TSA like security at airports if the national voters would defend that with molestation and body screenings etc.
So first the SAS are regulated to conducting Intelligence as if they’re int geeks, they’d also fill in the role of Logistics corp, driving trucks manning POL stations, shifting kit to units ect. Now they’re being deployed because their special skill set is perfect for maintaining a fixed defensive position.
For the next genius thinking outside the box S1 move I expect Key’s government to deploy the Infantry regt as helo pilots and shifted to man HMNZS Te Kaha. Or maybe he’ll just use the Super Army Soldiers in every role.
The “security analyst” Wild Katipo mentions is none other than the indefatigable Paul Buchanan. His thoughts on Key’s SAS comments are worth considering: http://www.kiwipolitico.com/2014/11/getting-real-about-the-nzdf-iraq-mission/
The SAS is not well suited to guard training grounds. This is not the mission they train for. They generally operate behind enemy lines, in small groups. I doubt if the generals would want them sent over as heavily armed security guards. I am forced to conclude that FJK is lying.
