So Key has capitulated on the ‘gold standard’ of free trade deals

The primary objective for New Zealand at Apec was to see some urgency injected into the TPP talks and to keep leaders aiming for a high quality deal.

There was no fist-pumping moment expected for Mr Obama or Mr Key, no breakthrough, and none happened.

But there is an acceptance by those dragging their feet, including Japan, that unless the leaders settle on a good enough deal to get Congress support, TPP will wither in a little over six months.

That has focused not only the foot draggers but also New Zealand, which has relented – Mr Key is now talking about special deals for some countries.

…so forget great trade deals for our Dairy industry, expect nothing there, expect the TPPA to do exactly what it is meant to, create a national security leash around NZ that robs us of economic sovereignty for US corporations.

What is interesting now is that NZ big business are putting together a propaganda fund to convince the easily led that this deal is wonderful for NZ and our US overlords…

Fighting fund to finance TPP battle
New Zealand businesses are planning a “fighting fund” for a pro-TPP campaign once a deal is finished and in the public arena, Prime Minister John Key was told in Beijing yesterday.

…seeing how easily manipulated the NZ public were over the election, convincing them that Key is signing away their rights for their benefit should be a breeze for big money NZ.

  1. I was equally surprised and appalled by this response of a ‘fighting fund’ to be set up by big business. If the TPPA isn’t good enough to convince people on it’s merits alone then it’s just not good enough. That there are those that think that the answer to the glaring problems with the agreement and the public distain for it is, money, their answer to everything, I say that you are sorely mistaken.

The answer is to cut and run. Get out of these negotiations and put New Zealand’s time and energy into efforts which we are far more likely to actually get some benefit from. And when I say ‘we’ I mean all New Zealanders, not just rich corporates, their managers and shareholders.

  2. A “fighting fund” for the TPPA, huh?

    So let’s see…

The TPPA is such a great deal for New Zealand that,

    A) It is being conducted in secret,

    B) A “fighting fund” is required to “sell” it to the public.

F**k me, if someone tried to sell a car to me under such conditions, I’d run a mile.

But then again, politicians are level-pegging with used-car salespeople in terms of trust and integrity… (Though at least with used-car salespeople, you can always complain to their professional body, Commerce Commission, Fair Go…)

    • Actually I understand that MPs presently lie between child molestors and telemarketers – less popular than the former (no-one knows who they are), but more popular than the latter (people hang up on them or abuse them routinely).

    • New Zealand is now a backwater colony of America, much like it was a backwater colony of the British Empire. This happened the moment John Key took power, and put an end to whatever remained of NZ’s sovereignty. The NZers who refused to vote because they hated ‘the left’ and the National party voters that did are at fault, and deserve the government they voted for – the rest of New Zealand doesn’t. But the thing about democracy is that voters are easily manipulated and bought off – especially when they are demoralized or greedy to the point of having no empathy for the poverty of others.

  3. Typical dirty underhanded tactics played by politicians and capitalists alike. Typical of their dishonesty, typical of their blatant disregard for democracy, the people, the freedom.
Typical of their outrageous disrespect, typical of their lies and broken promises.
The only freedom I’m seeing here, is their freedom to do what they please for their benefit in gains, their freedom to rob anyone and everyone they can screw over for whatever gains they can lay claim to.
If Key and his minions and puppeteers can get away with whatever they please, then what’s the point in having any form of law?
And if the Chairman of the House of Representatives won’t hold Key and his minions accountable for their policies and actions, then what’s the point in being in such a position in parliament. He might just as well be sitting in a deck chair with a glass of wine in one hand and a joint in the other.
It’s a fucking joke. It’s political/corporate hypocrisy at its best, and there’s more to come folks.
Let’s do this people, let’s make a noise and let them know we’re not going to take their unacceptable behaviour any more. Key has to go.

  4. It is actually TREASON , pure and simple.
    John Key, traitor

(Treason =the betrayal of one’s country)

But such are the times we live in- the masses being hopelessly confused/distracted, and all the Media complicit
    – that
    this simple Truth goes
    unrecognised .
and happening right under our noses!!!!!!!!!!!

    WOE to the people!!!!!
Woe to the people for what’s coming, and in their blind ignorance can not even see it!!!!!!!

  5. (“In extreme circumstances the Governor General can dissolve parliament”..)

    – Is this not TRUE?

So, when but NOW, was there ever a more “extreme” time?!!

  6. The Governer General is Keys bought man, he wont do what he should, just what he”s told, no hope there .
Key owns everyone ,Corporations own Key.we are all Corporation owned,we think we cant do anything , but dogs who are owned can bite their owners ,time NZ.s got some teeth.
Key knows NZ.s are apathetic so does what he likes.
Keys hears people say he is a corporation and Obama puppet, he never responds , he knows the public are on to the TTP stitch up ,he never reponds. Key ignors what he dosnt want to answer and gets away with it.
People will only get angry when its all done and dusted, the time to react is now , get rid of the traitor Key. Take a class action and accuse him outright of treason,if we can find a judge who is not corrupt ,there must be some .
