“If you want steak, go to the supermarket and buy steak,” – A brief word on the final leaders debate

“If you want steak, go to the supermarket and buy steak,” said Key in the final leaders debate. Problem of course is that the 250 000 – 285 000 children living in poverty can not afford steak, milk, butter, eggs or weetbix. The inequality of NZ under National has been smothered under poverty denial and last nights weak 30 minute ‘debate’ was never going to have time to touch on those real issues.

Hilariously Key bemoaned all the negativity, seeing as most of the Dirty Politics filth was his, the audacity of the comment was cringe worthy.

Cunliffe was on target, but in 30 minutes all it was going to deteriorate into was ‘I know you are, you said you are, but what am I”. Key kept claiming Dotcom was running in the election, when everyone knows Dotcom is not running in the election and can’t run in the election. As for Key’s belief that Kelvin Davis will win Tamaki Makaurau, well at least that will mean Kelvin ones one Maori electorate.

  1. Good last paragraph Martyn. I thought about ringing up TV1 to ask them to remind JK that KDC is not even standing for parliament (he is ineligible because he is not a NZ citizen). Key appeared to be really losing his marbles and he must have counted his lucky stars that he hadn’t agreed to a time extension. It was left to Hosking to save Key’s face by reverting to tame questions about what electorates they considered to be the crucial ones. Key is really worried about KDC, isn’t he?

    • No, he’s merely scare mongering. This tactic was furthered by Mathew Hooton in his post-debate ‘analysis’. They want to tie Cunliffe’s hands. This is why Cunliffe made his point about the rag-tag band of right wing weirdos that National will need. Incidentally, I’m sure there was a point in the debate when Key said, “I won.” Key increasingly looks like a child inhabiting a middle aged man’s body.

  2. Key looks desperate now, where’s the brimming confidence?

He is loosing more hair every day and his face is haggard and bags under his eyes.

There is a certain weird change in this sad man that has sold his soul to the devil, (if he ever had one).

I think all the lies he has told over the last 20 yrs.’ are finally coming to haunt him and after the election he knows he will be hunted down like the dog he is.

    • Did you see the facials and body language when Hoskings asked DC what he would do in the first 100 days of power? That was classic – JK looked like a possum in headlights 🙂

    • I didn’t see it yet, but I was thinking this morning that it’s really important for Key to lose. With all of the power hungry backroom games that have been going on, a win for Key means that currently fragile ego will just be reinforced, and if you think we have a monster now, just wait until he’s done licking his wounds and starts looking for revenge. Out of government, he’ll get the dressing down he deserves, most likely piss off to Hawaii with his tail between his legs, and we can all move on. Back in the hot seat, and he will be out for blood.

      • Move on to where? Cunliffe doesn’t have any answers to the problems of deep state, and he (like Key) is no position to fix the problem. Responsibility for state security ultimately rests with the commander in chief, not the P.M.

  3. Noticed too, that most of the noise was from Hoskings attacking Cunliffe, while Key was reduced to “squeaking” incoherently at one point in the middle. Lucky for him it was only 30 minutes.

  4. David Cunliffe came across as very confident, articulating policies well. He kept a cool head and was in control of all his statements.

A strong statesman like demeanour was evident in Cunliffe last night.

FJK just waffled on about nothing at all. Yet Hosking gave him far more speaking time!

Very noticeable was the fact Hosking spoke over Cunliffe several times. Despite Hosking’s constant interruptions, Cunliffe won the debate hands down.

    • will, what else did we xpect from Hoskings!… how was it after all the justified protest from the itelligent public that he was still allowed this role?????? we are doomed …sorry I just don’t feel any hope at all..feel like curling up into a ball and hibernating for 3 years but when I wake up ..will, I won’t want to wake I!!

    • @Timothy:

I was concerned, and then the penny dropped.
If DC admits to having anything at all to do with IMP, then imagine what our MSM would do with that. So DC is wise to have no association with them pre-election.
After the election, then everyone will have to fit nicely together, of course.

We are going to change our govt on Saturday 🙂

My favourite part of the interview was at approx 15:50mins!

Loved DCs first 100 days – bringing on the commission of inquiry into FJKs activities.

Hosking is a ludicrous specimen of a one-eyed man!

  5. If I want steak, I have to budget for it 2 weeks in advance. Overall, it’s more cost effective to buy a nice roast to make 20 servings. Gotta add side dishes too.

When was the last time Key had to make nightly dinners for a year?

    • JohnXKEYSCORE likes to eat healthy and eat stuffed crayfish with caviar …steak ??…whats that?

We need Wendell to educate him,……and tell him why so many people cant afford a bottle of milk for their kids – and thats why she was trying to help them stretch out a healthy meal for a family on a meagre budget.

Too bad the Rich …erm….’ person ‘ added her sugary poison to the story , however….

  6. These televised debates were traditionally an hour, why half an hour? Was that trashy cooking programme at 7:30 more important? Giving the debate the Seven Sharp treatment? Has to be the worst “debate” broadcast, especially that monologue by Key at the beginning spouting forth the same tired lies.

If there is a new government, they will be mad not to proceed with media reforms, as is, the quality is really shocking.

Half an hour to relieve the pain for a scandal laden Key?

  7. Hosking is a terrible presenter but TVNZ can’t see it. A quality journalist would have asked Key why Judith is still an MP and not been kicked out of the party and forced to stand as an independent, and if he has an excuse for that, why she has not been demoted to the bottom of National’s list – She’s still at #6 !! so a vote for National is a dead cert vote for Judith to remain in parliament, and an endorsement of dirty politics which I think all reasonable people can agree is proven beyond doubt – only Collins and Key are still lying about it. Also, why is no media hound tracking down Jason Ede for comment? Collins is even worse than Key, and she will use the evil Slater for revenge on her own party members who oppose her.

    • JohnXKeySCORE’s facilitating and enabling mass surveillance on the public of New Zealand is far more insidious than Colons. Colons is more a cunning malevolence than the former ,…

As for Ede….When a PROPER INQUIRY under a Left bloc govt is set in motion….Ede will no longer be found hiding in deep , dark tunnels…

All will be revealed and brought out into the light….to enable a TRUE DEMOCRATIC CHOICE for all New Zealander’s.
